The Imbumba Foundation Caring4Girls Programme was honoured to join the MNU Matariki Network of Universities "Caring for the Other Half PhotoVoice Exhibition," hosted by the University of the Western Cape School of Public Health in collaboration with PUG: Politics and Urban Governance Research Group, Queen’s University Canada, and the University of Western Australia.

In recognition of Menstrual Hygiene Day, participants from Khayelitsha shared their lived realities in the menstrual hygiene context through powerful photographs that reflected experiences of sanitation, social dynamics, dignity, privacy, and safety. This offered a unique and deeply personal approach to data collection.

We look forward to building partnerships with these inspiring organisations to bring fresh ideas and strengthen our own M&E systems.

In celebration of the United Nations () International Menstrual Hygiene Day the Imbumba Foundation enabled by their longstanding partnership with AngloGold Ashanti () distributed sanitary pads to indigent girl children through its Caring4Girls programme in the Diepsloot township area to make a meaningful difference where it matters most.

The programme supported young girls during their exam period to ensure they do not miss a day in school during these crucial times in their high school careers.

Approximately 104,900 sanitary pads were delivered to over 2,100 Grade 8 to 12 learners at Diepsloot West Secondary School and Diepsloot No. 2 Secondary School.

Every girl deserves the chance to focus on her education with dignity and confidence. Together, we are helping ensure that no girl misses school during this critical time.

As we celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Month on the back of our first round of distributions in partnership with Head Office to beneficiary schools in Hotazel, Alexandra and eSikhawini, the included sponsorship of M&E at these schools show a remarkable Theory of Change, including that 100% of beneficiaries have reported no absentee days due to lack of access to sanitary protection and 71% increase in girls feeling confident to seek clinic assistance with concerns they were previously to embarrassed to speak about.

Today, the Imbumba Foundation partnered with Supergroup to distribute nearly 50,000 sanitary pads to Grade 8 to 12 learners at Cosmo City Secondary School No. 2 and Far North Secondary School.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to support and empower young girls as they grow into strong, confident young women.

A sincere thank you to Supergroup and their partners for choosing us as the beneficiary of their golfing fundraiser. Because of this contribution, we are able to reach nearly 1,100 girls, helping them stay in school with dignity and without interruption during their monthly cycles.

It is through partnerships like these that we continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

Meet one of our young inspiring achievers, Nokukhanya Ndobe, a 21 year old trailblazer who recently graduated with a BSc Honours in Geology from the University of the Witwatersrand.

As a proud beneficiary of the Imbumba Foundation's Vision 2020 Programme and the Caring4Girls initiative, Nokukhanya reflects on how these programmes helped shape her journey. She received dignity packs that allowed her to
attend school confidently and consistently, without worrying about access to essential sanitary products.

Being part of the Vision 2020 Programme broadened her horizons, nurtured her leadership potential, and encouraged her to believe in the power of education. The mentorship, motivation, and exposure she received helped her dream beyond her circumstances and pursue higher learning.

In her own words:
"It played a crucial role in shaping my confidence, resilience, and determination to succeed academically and personally. I am deeply grateful for the continued commitment of Imbumba Foundation and partners who invest in programmes that empower young people, restore dignity, and create
opportunities for education. This support not only changes individual lives but also strengthens communities and helps shape future leaders like me who will continue to make a positive impact in society."

Let us continue to uplift and empower young people. They are the future, and together we can do even more. We are stronger together.

From the small village of Luphisi to becoming an award winning educator — Charlotte Buhle Sibiya’s journey is a true reflection of what empowerment can achieve. 🌟

As one of the very first Caring4Girls beneficiaries, Charlotte received support throughout her schooling years, a foundation that helped shape her path toward obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Botany, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Fort Hare.

Today, Charlotte serves as an educator at Chakaza Primary School — and her excellence shines. On 6 March 2026, she was honoured as the Best Performing Teacher in Natural Sciences & Technology for 2025 at the Sikhulile Circuit Awards, hosted at Church Unlimited in Nelspruit. She also received a certificate of appreciation for her dedicated leadership as Cluster Leader for Natural Sciences & Technology (GET Phase).

As we observe International Women’s Month and commemorate 70 years since the historic 1956 Women’s March, Charlotte’s story stands as a powerful reminder of the impact of investing in a girl child.

A heartfelt salute to all our partners who have enabled us through the Caring4Girls Programme to contribute to Charlotte’s journey, who now inspires and uplifts young girls who stand where she once stood.
