Today, we celebrate the women whose leadership and dedication are helping to strengthen responsible trade across South Africa.

For Letitia Davids, leadership means turning intention into action and bringing people together to create meaningful change. She believes responsible trade is strengthened through collaboration, accountability and empowering others to make a positive impact.

This Women's Day, we celebrate Letitia and every woman who is leading through responsibility and helping to build stronger, safer communities.

Responsibility is built through everyday actions.

By verifying age before every sale, sourcing products responsibly and staying alert to suspicious products, retailers help strengthen legitimate trade and protect consumers.

Every responsible decision makes a difference.

Different Voices. One Shared Responsibility.

When nearly 1 in 5 alcohol products sold in South Africa is illicit, the message is clear: market integrity cannot be taken for granted. Protecting lives and safeguarding our markets requires collective action.

Responsible trade protects:

• Consumers
• Jobs
• Legitimate businesses
• Market integrity

Protecting these shared interests requires collaboration across the value chain.

Collaboration in Action

Strengthening partnerships to protect consumers and advance responsible trade.

The Responsible Trade Task Force (RTTF), in collaboration with the Western Cape Liquor Authority, continued its stakeholder engagement and training programme in the Western Cape.

Through practical training and knowledge sharing, the programme strengthened collaboration to combat illicit and counterfeit alcohol, protect consumers, and reinforce responsible trade.

Before you buy, take a closer look.

Price is one of several indicators to consider when making an informed purchasing decision.

According to Euromonitor International's 2025 Illicit Alcohol Report, some illicit alcohol is sold for up to 37% cheaper than legitimate products.

If a price seems significantly lower than similar products, take a moment to consider where you're buying from and whether the retailer is reputable.

Think beyond the price. Choose responsibly. Support responsible trade.

Ubuntu Starts With Collaboration

Protecting young people is a shared responsibility.

As part of our commitment to responsible trade, DF-SA has facilitated a pilot age-checking programme to support responsible retail practices and encourage age verification at the point of sale.

"Protecting young people is a shared responsibility, and collaboration is essential to achieving lasting impact."
— Angela Russell, CEO of DF-SA

Together, we can strengthen responsible trade through shared action and responsible retail practices.
