Stronger Together. Shared responsibility.

DF-SA welcomes Sean Robinson, Joint CEO of Ultra Liquors, and Thami Silwana, Liquor Executive at TOPS at SPAR, as new members of the DF-SA Board.

Bringing extensive retail, commercial and industry experience, their appointment strengthens trader representation at Board level and brings an important perspective from across the alcohol value chain into DF-SA’s strategic discussions on responsible trade and market integrity.

Responsible communication matters.

The DF-SA Communications Code of Conduct sets out responsible standards for advertising, digital platforms, promotions, influencers and events.

As activity increases around sporting and cultural moments, the Code provides a clear framework for responsible communication across the industry.

If you encounter alcohol advertising or marketing that may not comply with responsible communication standards, report it to the Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) for review.

Stronger Together: From Evidence to Action

Yesterday, DF-SA engaged with KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, and Director-General, Ms Nokuthula G. Khanyile, to strengthen the collective response to the illicit and counterfeit alcohol trade.

The engagement focused on stronger coordination, information sharing and collaboration, informed by DF-SA’s research on the scale and impact of illicit alcohol.

Through the Responsible Trade Task Force (RTTF), DF-SA is bringing industry, government, law enforcement and other stakeholders together to turn intelligence into coordinated action and strengthen responsible trade.

What should you look for in the product?

The contents of a bottle should match legal expectations.

Be aware of:

Unusual odour: A chemically harsh smell, such as paint thinners or nail polish remover, can be a warning sign.

Suspicious appearance: Spirits such as vodka and gin should be clear, while wh**ky and brandy should have consistent colouring. Floating particles, sediment, unusual cloudiness or inconsistent colouring may warrant a closer look.

If something about the product looks or smells unusual, pause before making a purchase or consuming it.
