Official Statement - Change of Plans:
POSTPONEMENT OF THE CALABASH CHORAL MUSIC FESTIVAL FINALE
The Calabash Choral Music Festival is a unique competition that was introduced to the choral fraternity with a different model of using a public voting system to change the game completely from traditional choral music competitions that solely rely on judges/adjudicators having the final say in crowning the winners at the end of the competition.

The engagement with choirs is pertinent for the success of any choral music festival held around the country. Following a rigorous and productive meeting held on the 1st of September 2022 with representatives from the Top 20 remaining choirs, the Festival Management has reached a decision to postpone the CCMF Finale from 29-30 October 2022 to 25-26 March 2023.

The public voting system has brought about a different ambience to the choral fraternity without which the event will be no different to the traditional choral festivals. Following a few impediments from choirs to view the voting system as an indispensable game changer to take choral music to the next level, the organizers required sufficient consultation time with the choirs to make the event a success.

The meeting with the top 20 choirs deliberated on the Date, Venue, Event Format, Public Voting and Logistics. This enabled the CCMF Management to understand what expectations the choirs have from the competition of this magnitude and further empowered us as the organizers to clarify the vision for the competition and plan for the Finale in 2023.

As an emerging choral music competition, we understand how much the choirs and the supporters were looking forward to the Finale. We also cannot wait to host you and give you the best choral music experience with a twist.

We look forward to seeing and hosting you on the 25th and 26th of March 2023.

Nazo!!

This week has been a heart-wrenching loss for choirs that have been eliminated. They all deserve a round of applause, honestly. The race was fierce, the voters broke records because expectations were exceeded.

In the end, mind set is what matters most, there has to be a winner and a loser, sadly. On a positive note this could be a redirection, a time to go back and re-strategize as a choir on how you are going to get it right next year.

“Despite wins and losses, it’s about "the experience”. Wishing all the best to the remaining choirs !

Statement from the Calabash Choral Music Festival (CCMF) Team:

The Calabash team has become aware of irregular voting implicating some of the participating choirs. The choirs in question used a system called BOTS (Robots) as a tool to increase their votes.

The Calabash management would like to state as follows:

a) We confirm BOTS votes have been received from the choirs in question.

b) We confirm that such votes are irregular and will be nullified.

c) The choirs in question will have their Facebook Likes nullified and as such they will be required to start from zero base.

d) Choirs are warned that such conduct is unacceptable and, in future, will result in disqualification.

The team would like to thank all participants for the great spirit in which they have embraced our concept.
