My name is Tessa and I am a Cancer Survivor.

Although in remission, my fight continues as my recovery remains incomplete due to complications developed during and post treatment. I am a fighter, a warrior and a conqueror!

Throughout my personal journey with cancer and chemotherapy, I have developed a
deep interest in supporting children with cancer. As an adult, one has a degree of
independence and can somewhat look out for oneself during treatment. However,
children rely entirely on others to care for them during what is undoubtedly the scariest
and most painful time of their lives.

One of the most challenging aspects of cancer treatment is hair loss. Unfortunately,
many children experience bullying and mockery, especially when bald, in a society
where well-being, health concerns and emotions are often overlooked by others.

I have always had long hair and when I was diagnosed with cancer, one of my first thoughts was, “I am going to lose my hair!”
This made me very emotional.

My hair thinned out and fell out quite a lot but it did not fall out completely. The hair loss was extremely visible therefore I wore a scarf most of the time.

I remember the times when I would brush my hair or simply touch it and it would fall out.
