🚧 Another busy week in Blairgowrie! 🚧

We’re gearing up for 1 September - Spring Day AND pool opening day - and we’re almost there! 🎉

After the pool bathrooms were retiled where needed last week, this week the basins, showers and plumbing were all sorted, thanks to Mark and the team at Neighbourhood Plumbing. 🙌

The walkways got a fresh lick of paint, and we added some pavers at the pool gate to help prevent slips and falls in the loose sand.

And the pools? Sparkling! ✨ A lifeguard has been appointed, everything is coming together and we’re ready for the new season. Are you? 😎

Don’t forget our Community Pool Celebration on Saturday, 5 September! 🎈 Come and enjoy the pool, some good food and a bit of Blairgowrie community spirit. 💚

While Jeffrey has been working hard at the pool, Percy has been keeping busy out on the streets. The verge clean-up along Jan Smuts continues…yes, we’re STILL not done 😂 and it’ll probably be another few weeks before we can declare victory! He’s also been doing the weekly clean-ups at Blairgowrie Park, Stadio Park and the Post Office.

Pikitup was kind enough to save us one trip to the dump this week 🙏 - but you’d be surprised (or perhaps shocked!) to see just how much rubbish gets collected in one week.

A huge thank you to Jeffrey, Percy, Harold and Mark and everyone who continues to help us keep Blairgowrie looking better. 💚

RAFFLE SPOTLIGHT: THE FRUIT, FLOWER & NUT MARKET! 🍎🌸🥜

One of our raffle prizes is a fabulous fruit & nut hamper, generously donated by Tex from The Fruit, Flower & Nut Market!

Tex has been running his business here for more than 35 years - making him one of the oldest businesses in Blairgowrie - and he’s got plenty of stories about how Blairgowrie has changed over the decades!

Tex isn't one for the spotlight, but ask him for help and he’s there. He’s quietly supported our community for years, and we think it’s time we gave him a little spotlight of our own. 💚

I popped in there yesterday and it’s lovely to be greeted by name. I also have to admit, I never leave without a few of their Portuguese tarts! 😋

Conveniently located on Conrad Drive, it’s the perfect quick stop for fresh produce, snacks and those last-minute groceries before dinner.

They’re a local business that’s been supporting Blairgowrie for over 35 years - let's support them right back. 💚

🎟️ Raffle tickets: R50 each | 10 for R400

What a weekly Post Office clean-up REALLY looks like…😩

1️⃣ Ask the homeless to move their precious belongings out of the way.
2️⃣ Clean up the rubbish left behind while they lounge around and wait.
3️⃣ Move all the rocks back to where they’re supposed to be.
4️⃣ Load up a trailer-full of filth and take it to the dump.
5️⃣ Watch it all happen again as the rocks, belongings and everything else are returned to exactly where they were.🤦‍♀️

Does it make Blairgowrie look better for a day? Yes.
Is it a viable solution to the problem? Absolutely not!

Our volunteers and staff can keep cleaning, but without a long-term solution, we're simply going around in circles.

💚 We need your help to find a better solution for the Blairgowrie Post Office area.

🔌 TECH LOVERS, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU! 💻🎉

We’re shining the spotlight on one of our fantastic local Blairgowrie businesses - PC Warehouse - who have generously sponsored THREE McDodo 3-in-1 Charging Stations for our BCA Community Raffle! 🔥

Based at the Bram Fischer Centre, PC Warehouse is your local go-to for all things tech and IT - and we love that they’re not only part of our community, but are proud to support it too. 💚

We have to give a special shoutout to Tashiel, who very much supports the BCA with his tech knowledge. He’s the man working hard (and quietly!) behind the scenes, improving our website and email service and making sure the tech side of things runs smoothly. If you’ve noticed our slick Pool and Post Office one-pager websites, that’s Tashiel! 👏💻 So if your business needs a tech overhaul, you now know where to go 😎

It’s exactly this kind of behind-the-scenes support that helps our BCA keep moving forward - and we’re incredibly grateful. 🙌

Post Office Carpark Project off to a great start!

The Post Office Carpark Project, initiated by Blairgowrie stakeholders and members of the BCA, is off to a great start. Early successes include 426 signatures obtained on our petition, and contributions from members of the community totaling over R13 000.

We have also received many positive comments on our Facebook account, and some private messages of encouragement from members of the community who are also concerned about the state of the Post Office Carpark.

We'd love to reach 500 signatures by the end of this week, so please ask everyone in your household to sign the petition. We'd also like to boost our funds for this project, and try to reach a target of R20 000 by the end of August: achieving these two milestones will give us the shot-in-the-arm we need to keep going.

The BCA is looking for someone to join our committee as our Marketing & Events Coordinator. 📣🎉

We’re looking for a creative, energetic person who loves Blairgowrie and enjoys connecting people, bringing ideas to life and getting the community involved.

The role would include:
📱 Help manage our FB, WA,
website and other communications
💚 Develop a consistent BCA brand, tone and visual identity
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Help plan and promote community events
🤝 Build relationships with local businesses, sponsors and community groups
💰 Help develop fundraising and sponsorship opportunities
🙌 Find new ways to get more residents involved and connected

You don't need to be a marketing professional (although it would help!). We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm, ideas, initiative and a genuine interest in making our neighbourhood better.

If you’re a people person, organiser, social media whizz, creative thinker - or simply someone who thinks “I could help with that!” - we’d love to hear from you.

This is a voluntary BCA committee position, but the opportunity to make a real difference in our community is pretty rewarding. 💚

Interested? Send us a message or email [email protected].

To our previous marketing guru, Brad - thank you for all the time and effort you have put into the BCA behind the scenes. 🙌

From helping pull together two successful AGMs and the Blairgowrie Pool opening, to creating new marketing banners and promotional material, Brad quietly got things done. We appreciate you! 🙏

It’s been a quiet week in Blairgowrie — what with a public holiday and one particularly freezing, wet day thrown into the mix! 🥶🌧️
But naturally, the BCA crew still managed to get stuck in…

🌱 Grass was cut
🚮 Parks/public spaces were cleaned
🧽 Pool Bathroom Fascia boards were washed

A BIG belated shout-out to Picasso Plumbing for their generous donation of a petrol lawnmower and brush cutter. 🙌 Thank you for helping us keep Blairgowrie looking its best! 💚

Jeffrey is absolutely in love with the new lawnmower 😂 - and we can see why! It gives the grass around the pool and lapa a much smoother, neater finish.

Small jobs, big difference. 💚
That’s the BCA way.
