Malusi Youth Development Organisation was established on 20th February 2015, and registered on 25/05/2015.with registration number 152-983 NPO by visionary team of youth in Malusi informal settlement, Hercules Pretoria. The organisation was established after realisation that most youth living in impoverished communities, especially informal settlements are struggling to continue or complete their

education and to have a positive sense of self and place in the world. Since youth in informal settlements are most vulnerable, Malusi Youth Development Organisation intends to work towards changing the environment in which young people live to facilitate their emotional, intellectual, physical, mental and social development growth. To accomplish this goal, young people must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect. The organisation provides educational support and afterschool activities, like Gumboots dance, poetry sessions, dramas, and different sports activities for the disadvantaged children of this Malusi 1 and 2 informal settlement. Due to the absence of basic necessities like running water, electricity, recreations facilities and knowledge centers the children of Malusi 1 and 2 face immense challenges. Not only do these children have to walk to local schools outside Hercules, they cannot afford the cost of uniforms, shoes, lunch and books. It is no surprise that many children turn to drugs and crime at an early age. In a community afflicted with immense poverty, a high unemployment rate of close to 75 percent, a HIV/AIDS rate of about 10 percent, and teenage pregnancy, MYDO enables children to harness their potential and grow into dynamic and skilled individuals who can give back to society.

.

As we continue to observe child protection week, we appreciate all stakeholders from NGO's, Government leaders, Academics to mention few, for coming together during stakeholders dialogue held recently to navigate and propose solutions on social ills ranging from GBV, Teenage pregnancy, SRH among others.

During the stakeholders dialogue we heard about research done, policy perspectives as well as facilities and avenue to explore when one is in need. We have ultimately designed action plan that seeks to address the above topics. The event was championed by Wellbeing Africa and Christian Women Rock.
