• If your child is under 18, carry a certified copy of their birth certificate or an unabridged birth certificate.
• If your child is travelling with only one parent/guardian — or without either parent — you’ll need an affidavit from the absent parent(s), plus certified copies of their ID documents.
• If the child’s surname differs from the travelling parent(s), bring supporting documents to prove the relationship.
• Ensure every traveller has a valid ID or passport.

The Department of Home Affairs has officially launched a new, cutting-edge digital platform designed to make key services faster, simpler, and more secure — especially for South Africans living abroad.

✨ What the new portal offers:
• Secure digital authentication for safer access
• Advanced document & biometric verification
• Integration with the National Population Register for accurate data matching
• A user-friendly interface to easily track your application progress

South Africans abroad can now begin their application process by visiting:
👉 myhomeaffairsonline.dha.gov.za

After creating a profile and confirming your email, you’ll be able to:
✔ Verify your citizenship status using your ID number
✔ Complete biometric verification
✔ Proceed with a confirmation of reinstatement application where required

This is a major step forward in bringing Home Affairs services closer to all South Africans — no matter where in the world they are.

Applying for a South African ID:

Eligibility: You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident, AND 16 years or older.

Documents Required:

Birth certificate or unabridged birth certificate

Proof of residence (recent utility bill, bank statement, etc.)

Supporting documents if applicable (marriage certificate, name change, etc.)

Tips for a Smooth Application:
✅ Apply online to book your appointment and reduce waiting time.
✅ Double-check all documents before your visit to avoid rejections.
