Our Story
The Network of Entrepreneurs, Readers, and Designers in Africa (NERDAFRICA) has, since 2011, recreated itself to adapt to the needs of the communities in which myself and my children have lived.
After a recess of half a year, where we were welcoming the newest member of our family, we have come back and re-branded with a specific focus on children’s books. The rejuvenation, which is driven by the nine-year-old Nkagiseng, is meant to create a space where he and his peers, particularly children of colour, can share their reading experiences and grow in the skill.
As nerdafrica hosts the Junior Club, you can look forward to joining Nkagiseng and Atang as they host, and I facilitate, book club meetings and a writing exchange rogramme. I will also be assisting them in the sale of second-hand children’s books, for the purpose of making sure that as many children as possible in our home area, where the nearest library is 5.1KMs away, have access to recreational reading material.
Gradually, we would like to see this project grow to embrace and encompass local literature and literature in local languages, which tends to be a bit pricey.
