Strategic partnerships built on a shared commitment to inclusive health management are one of the cornerstones of the Africa Centre’s work. Our partnership with non-profit faith-based organisation HospiVision focuses on promoting the integration of spirituality into health management practices, which is why we’re thrilled to partner with them for the religion and spirituality in healthcare conference in September.

According to HospiVision CEO Dr Annemarie Oberholzer, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing and advocating for holistic healthcare in Africa: “We believe that health is more than the absence of disease – it includes physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing ... Our volunteers and chaplains provide emotional, spiritual and practical support to some of the most vulnerable members of our communities … This aligns closely with the Africa Centre's vision of strengthening health systems that promote equitable access, efficient service delivery and social justice.”

While the centre focuses on developing inclusive health systems through research, leadership and policy, HospiVision contributes at the point of care by addressing needs that are often overlooked but have a profound impact on patients' wellbeing and healthcare experience. HospiVision also contributes to research and professional education in spirituality and health by supporting multiple research projects at universities across South Africa.

Tending to the traumatised is not just a job. It is participation in the restoration of the world. In the African philosophy of Ubuntu, “I am because we are”, personhood and healing are bound up in our interconnectedness with others, nature, and the Divine.

When HospiVision sits with a patient in suffering, it is a sacred encounter. In giving compassion, you receive grace in return. Your individual acts of care participate in a much larger narrative of redemption and love.

On Saturday 25 July, the Hamba Nawe team, together with the Grové Schoombee Foundation team, invited some of our loyal partners and donors to a special morning of appreciation. It was a perfect, sunny winter's morning in the beautiful garden at Daybreak House. While enjoying a tasty breakfast, we shared the journey of our first 18 months through pictures and stories of so many special families. The goal of the morning was to say a heartfelt thank you to the donors, friends, and partners who have committed to helping us in this very important work that we do. Everyone shared laughter, tears, and memories, and we left with hearts full of gratitude for this group of extraordinary humans, and for the privilege of taking part in this sacred part of life's journey.

Faith gives hope that death is not the end but the continuation of eternal life with God.
