The Afrika Leadership Development Institute (LeadAfrika) is a Non-Profit (Section 21) Organisation which was founded by Dr. Hendrik Cronje and originated as a Leadership Centre in a major university during 2002. As A Multi-University Initiative, we draw on staff and Centres of Excellence from a number of universities and other networks such as the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Preto
ria. We are one of the core sources for innovative leadership sciences with an African development network with global connectivity and an energetic force for the empowerment of Civil Society as a driver for Socio-Economic development aiming at alleviating and eradicating poverty. LeadAfrika is focused on Leadership competency and capacity building in Civic Society, Local, Provincial and National Governance Structures. The Institute has wide-ranging experience working on Socio-Economic Development Programmes in various provinces in South Africa and in five of the neighboring countries. We have conducted a number of projects such as a Leadership Development Programme for Parliamentarians. This had an oversight and developmental focus. We are working closely with the Pan African Parliament and NEPAD on the African Union on related Leadership initiatives. Considering the learning experiences from a range of women–specific and gender–responsive development programmes, LeadAfrika did a gender-responsive programme on “Energising Local Economic Development” in five countries. Within the South African context, our approach to assist organisations is in line with the countries vision of transformation and the empowerment of previously disadvantaged communities. Our collaboration efforts with strategic partners, to deliver inspired leadership training has seen our efforts providing a renewed and fresh dynamic source of direction and energy for leadership development. This success has enhanced our focus on Leadership Development, Economic Development, and the Empowerment of Women and Youth.
