From solo play to parallel play, pretend play to sensory play, each type of play creates opportunities for meaningful growth and development.

What may appear simple on the surface is actually powerful developmental work. In DIRFloortime, play allows us to meet a child where they are and expand their developmental capacities through meaningful, shared interactions.

We’re committed to spreading awareness leading to acceptance beyond just a month! So we are launching our educational series, in collaboration with Carman and his partner, self-advocate autistic adults, and our staff at Rise.

Drawing from our knowledge from everyday experiences and OTs and STs, we aim to gently and gradually share our knowledge surrounding Autism and Neurodiversity.

Our goal is to cultivate awareness, understanding, and acceptance of neurodivergent individuals beyond a single month.

Because autism acceptance is not just a month. It is a mindset.

The Autism spectrum is not linear. There is no such thing as “more Autistic” or “less Autistic.” Rather, it reflects a dynamic, individualized profile of strengths and differences that varies from person to person.

This graphic shows the diversity within the Autism community and highlights why the "I" (Individual-Differences) in DIR is so important. Individual-Differences are the unique ways each person takes in, regulates, responds to, and comprehends the world around them. Understanding the unique profile of each person, provides a more holistic perspective on their unique experience. DIR highlights the person as a whole, rather than just a collection of labels and takes into account all of the factors affecting an individual's ability to attend to the world.
