Restoring the Apies River..

The Right Way 💧🌿

When you restore a river, you can’t start in the middle and hope for change. Real restoration begins at the source and works its way downstream, rebuilding the ecosystems that once thrived along the riverbanks.

Yesterday we gathered at the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria with the Deputy Minister of DFFE during Garden Week, as part of our journey up the Apies River to its very beginning, the source.

From there, the real work begins. Step by step, implementation by implementation, restoring the river and the ecosystems that once thrived on the pure fountain water that started it all.

This is more than a clean-up.
This is restoration. 🌍

🌍💧 Apies River Clean-Up Coming Soon 💧🌍

We’re getting ready to roll up our sleeves and make a real difference. The Apies River clean-up is on the way, and it’s just the beginning.

Alongside the clean-up, we’ll also be launching a brand-new programme focused on restoration, awareness, and long-term impact in our communities. 🌱♻️

We'll start birthing new ecosystems, micro ecosystems that has no place next to the river, at this current moment.

This is about action. This is about responsibility. This is about protecting our water for the next generation.

A new project is on the way. 🌍💧

We’re stepping in to clean and save a dam under threat from pollution and invasive plants taking over its ecosystem.

This isn’t just about removing waste, it’s about restoring balance, protecting water, and giving nature a real chance to recover. Big work ahead, but the mission is clear.

This is the reality of our rivers, hidden waste, sewage, and neglect flowing beneath what we choose to see. The question isn’t if there’s a problem… it’s how do we fix it together?

Real solutions start with accountability, infrastructure, education, and community action.

Our rivers can recover but only if we decide they matter. 🌍💧

Rural rivers often run clearer than suburban ones, not because nature changed, but because human impact did.

Pollution, failing infrastructure, and neglect turn our suburban rivers into sewage channels.

This is a choice, and it’s one we can fix. 🌊🌱
