On day one in the Burns ICU, I stood at my son’s bedside and looked at the monitors.

60% burns. Inhalation injury. Electrical trauma. Induced coma.

By every metric I had ever managed in my professional life, this was a project destined for failure.

I leaned in and whispered the only truth I had: ‘What the f*** have you done?’

That was day one of 413.

It has taken me eight years to distill those days into the truth.

Survival to Sovereignty is the story of how we navigate the wreckage, move through the aftermath, and refuse to live in the ashes.

The movement launches officially on 29 June 2026.

Why I Wrote This Book (And Why It Took Eight Years)

On the 29th of June 2018, I was standing in the frozen food aisle of a grocery store when my phone rang.

My son had flown his paraglider into high-voltage power lines. By the time he reached Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, 60% of his body was burnt. That number would later become 86%.

What followed were 413 days in ICU. Then three months of rehabilitation. Then years of recovery at home that nobody talks about, because the miracle had already happened, and the world had moved on.

I didn’t write this book because I wanted to.

I wrote it because it needed to exist.

There are thousands of people sitting in ICU waiting rooms right now who have no map for what they’re going through. There are thousands more who brought their person home and discovered that home was where the real work began. There are caregivers and parents and partners and siblings who held everything together while the world watched someone else’s miracle, and nobody ever asked how they were.

This book is for them.

413 unfiltered truths about trauma, recovery, sovereignty, and what it costs to survive something that was supposed to kill you.
It isn’t a self-help book. It isn’t a medical memoir. It is simply the truth of what happened, to my son, to my family, and to the woman I was before the fire and the woman I became inside it.

Survival to Sovereignty launches on the 29th of June 2026.

You can find it at 413unfilteredtruths.com.

I’ll see you there.

The world did not end with a bang.
It ended in the frozen food aisle of a grocery store.

It was Friday, the 29th of June 2018.

I was standing next to the frozen peas when my phone rang.

My ex-husband’s voice. Stripped of its usual bravado.
Brittle. Like dry glass.
‘Kelvin has flown his paraglider into powerlines. There was a fire. He’s not moving.’

The trolley slipped from my hands.

That was the moment my life divided into before and after.

Survival to Sovereignty.
Available 29 June.

Three Months!

Update from Jason’s family 🙏

I think most of you already know by now that Jason was discharged from the Muelmed Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in Pretoria on the 3rd of June to which he was transferred by ambulance from Kimberley on 21 April 2026.

As a family we are very thankful in the first instance towards our Heavenly Father for Jason’s wonderful recovery up to where he is now.

Also to everybody for the wonderful moral and financial support up to now.

Although Jason has been given the ‘green light’ to go home to stay with us his parents, it was done subject to certain conditions such as absolute abstinence from alcohol and smoking for the next 6 months, supervision over his overall mobility, no driving of any vehicle for the next few months (up to 6), the need of 24/7 supervision to live on his own, the need to be supervised when travelling or shopping and the need for assistance to manage finances.

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray, encourage and support Jason.

Your kindness and support mean so much to us as a family.

God’s grace has carried Jason thus far and we believe that it will continue in the foreseeable future.

—————————

Three Months

Today marks three months since Jason’s life changed in an instant.

What followed has been three months of courage, determination, challenges, and hard-earned victories.

From the ICU and surgeries to rehabilitation and reconnecting with loved ones, Jason has shown incredible strength every step of the way.

Jason, your resilience, faith, and fighting spirit continue to inspire so many. We are incredibly proud of how far you have come.

Thank you to the rehabilitation team for your dedication, compassion, and ongoing support.

Three months ago, many prayed for a miracle.

Today, we are watching that miracle unfold.

Keep fighting, Jason. Keep believing. One step at a time.

With love and unwavering support,
we continue to stand beside you. 🙏🏻

As winter conditions intensify, Letaba FPA reminds landowners that the burning of waste tyres for frost protection is not endorsed and is strongly discouraged.

Tyre fires release harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, create unnecessary fire risks, and can negatively affect neighbouring communities, workers, soil health, water resources and biodiversity. Responsible agricultural practices are essential for protecting both our environment and the long-term sustainability of the farming sector.

Farmers are encouraged to consider safer alternatives such as organic plant material and clean biomass that do not contain harmful chemicals.

Let's work together to protect our crops, our communities and our environment this winter.
