The 2nd Gonubie Sea Scouts recently put their outdoor skills to the ultimate test with an action-packed survival challenge that saw them battling the elements, mastering fire-starting, building shelters, and taking part in important communication exercises.
The event was designed to foster teamwork, resilience, and practical outdoor knowledge, and proved to be a memorable and exciting experience for everyone involved.
One of the highlights of the day was the shelter-building competition. Each patrol was given just 20 minutes to construct a survival shelter capable of withstanding tough outdoor conditions. As if on cue, Mother Nature added to the challenge by unleashing heavy rain, giving the Scouts the perfect opportunity to test their designs in real conditions.
The Scouts also practised clear and rapid communication in critical situations, an important skill in any outdoor or survival environment.
After a night spent “surviving the elements”, the evening ended on a lighter note with a lively game of “Priest of the Parish”. Laughter echoed through the camp, especially during the hilarious “dog box” moments, which provided a welcome and light-hearted end to an otherwise challenging day.
The event was a great example of Scouting in action: young people learning by doing, working together, building confidence, and developing the skills needed to face real-world challenges.
Well done to the 2nd Gonubie Sea Scouts for showing courage, teamwork, and true Scouting spirit. ⚜️ 2nd Gonubie Sea Scouts
