A proud moment for Freemasonry in the Eastern Cape Division!

Heartfelt congratulations to Bro Nowellyn P. van Vuuren 33° and Bro Dennis A. Nienaber 33° on their appointments to high office within the Supreme Council of the 33rd and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of South Africa.

Bro Nowellyn P. van Vuuren 33° has been appointed as Lieutenant General Commander, carrying the distinguished title of Puissant Brother.

Bro Dennis A. Nienaber 33° has been appointed as Executive Grand Supreme Inspector General for the Eastern Cape Division, carrying the distinguished title of Most Illustrious Brother.

These prestigious appointments are a reflection of their dedication, commitment, leadership, and unwavering service to the Craft. It is a remarkable achievement for the Eastern Cape Division to have two of its Brethren elevated to such eminent offices within the Rite.

May they continue to serve the Craft with wisdom, humility, dignity, and distinction as they take on their new responsibilities. We are proud to call them our Brothers and wish them every success in the years ahead.

Another successful Masonic braai for the books!

Good food, plenty of laughs, and even better company made for a fantastic day spent with brothers, family, and friends. The day was topped off with our Joker Lucky Draw, where Brother Angus seemed to have all the luck on his side—although not quite enough to uncover the Joker!

It's always great to get together outside of the lodge room and enjoy the fellowship that makes our fraternity so special. Days like these remind us that Freemasonry is not only about what happens inside the lodge, but also about the friendships and brotherhood we build along the way.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it another successful braai. We look forward to the next one!

For the first time in history, this global gathering was hosted on African soil, bringing together Brethren from around the world under the theme:

“Staying Future Relevant – The Next Generation.”

The conference was filled with meaningful discussions, fellowship, shared knowledge, and practical ideas on how Freemasonry can continue to grow and remain relevant for future generations.

A proud and historic moment for South African Freemasonry and a reminder that the future of the Craft depends on strong leadership, unity, and the willingness to adapt while staying true to our timeless principles.

Lodge Sonheuwel held its monthly family braai, a wonderful day where Brethren, family, and friends came together to enjoy the true spirit of Freemasonry beyond the lodge walls.

With the big fires burning, good food being shared, and laughter all around, it was a reminder of how important friendship, family, and fellowship are within our Masonic journey. The joy and warmth brought by our Masonic ladies added something truly special to the day, making memories that will last long after the fires have gone out.

To top it all off, the Joker Lucky Draw added excitement and fun to an already fantastic gathering.

Freemasonry teaches us that strong lodges are built by strong families, loyal friends, and united hearts. Days like these remind us that the bonds we share outside the lodge are just as important as those within it.

Built in 1912, this structure originally served as a synagogue for the early Jewish community — a place of prayer, unity, and tradition. Within these walls, families gathered, faith was practiced, and a community helped shape the very foundation of the city.

As time passed and the community evolved, the building itself found new purpose.
