What a fruitful day we had yesterday at the Site 11 Community Assessment Dialogue! 💖🤝🏽

On 30 September 2026, Women Of Worth Movement Society (WOW), in collaboration with Yfc Kzn (YFC), brought together women, young people, community members and stakeholders in Site 11, Woodlands, Pietermaritzburg, to begin an important conversation about the community’s future.

Earlier this quarter, our situational analysis highlighted the need to re-engage with Site 11, Happy Valley, and surrounding communities in Ward 32. We subsequently engaged Youth for Christ (YFC) to explore the support they could offer as we plan to strengthen our presence and interventions in the area. YFC previously worked in these communities for several years, and since that programme concluded, there has been no consistent organisational presence providing direct support to the community.

As we considered re-engaging, we knew we could not simply return with a programme designed from the outside. We wanted to listen first, understand the community’s experiences, and recognise the people, skills, relationships, strengths and resources already present within the community.

Participants shared the challenges they face within their families and communities, when accessing services, and when trying to sustain their livelihoods. More importantly, we asked: What can we do about these challenges, together?

Thank you to Phumla Vilakazi of Sasopsbiz Foundation for facilitating a powerful conversation on recognising and building on the strengths and resources within the community, and to your team for sharing the services and support your organisation offers. We are also grateful to the YFC team for sharing opportunities around skills development and income-generating programmes, while Derek Mabaso engaged participants on child protection rights and parenting.

The insights from this dialogue will help shape a short- to medium-term intervention for Site 11 and surrounding communities, responding to priorities identified with the people themselves.

This is only the beginning.

🥳✨ A NEW JOURNEY BEGINS! ✨🥳

Yesterday, 16 September 2026, Women Of Worth Movement Society (WOW), in partnership with the Southern African Association of Youth Clubs (SAAYC), hosted the National Youth Service (NYS) Phase V Contracting Session at Project Gateway in Pietermaritzburg.

After weeks of preparation, it was such a special moment to officially welcome and onboard our NYS participants as they signed their contracts and began their journey of service, learning and community participation. 👏

Through the programme, our young participants will gain practical experience, develop their skills and contribute to the communities they call home.

A heartfelt thank you to SAAYC, especially our KZN Coordinator, Kwanele Myeni, for the partnership and support, and to Project Gateway for hosting us.

To our NYS participants - welcome to the WOW family! ❤️ We are excited to walk this journey with you.

THROWBACK THURSDAY | KZN YOUTH CONSULTATION ON TAX JUSTICE, A JUST TRANSITION & THE GREEN ECONOMY 🌱♻️

On 14 August 2026, we brought young people from our community, as part of our Recycling for Profit Initiative, to the KwaZulu-Natal Youth Consultation on Tax Justice, a Just Transition, and the Green Economy, hosted by Greenpeace Africa.

The consultation brought together young people, civil society, community activists, and government representatives in eThekwini to engage on issues of youth unemployment, environmental justice, tax justice, and what a fair green transition should look like for communities.

Through participatory discussions, participants explored power, accountability, and policy gaps, while strengthening ideas on how youth-led advocacy can better influence decision-makers and drive meaningful change.

For us, creating spaces for young people to understand the links between environmental sustainability, economic opportunities, and social justice is an important part of building communities where young people can actively shape the future they want to see.💚
