Tonight, we celebrate an extraordinary achievement.
As presented by SANA President, Mr Louis Hecker, on the occasion of the presentation of SANA's highest honour, the Gold Award:
"The highly respected and much loved figure in South African horticulture. This recipient has devoted more than 5 decades to the cultivation, breeding and promotion of roses. His life long passion has helped cultivate a deep appreciation for roses across generations of gardeners and has played a defining role in shaping the modern rose industry in SA.
In 1971 he founded the countries most iconic rose growing enterprise and pioneered the production of container grown roses. A breakthrough that reformed accessibility and allowed gardeners to plant roses year round.
His commitment to quality, innovation and trialing new varieties has ensured that roses thrive in local conditions and remain a staple in gardens nation wide.
Beyond his technical expertise he is celebrated for his ability to teach, inspire and connect with people through workshops, talks, demonstrations and rose experiences. He continues to share his knowledge with humour, story telling and an unmistakable passion that has made him a beloved ambassador for our industry.
His influence reaches far beyond plants alone - it lives in the generations of gardeners he has inspired and the culture of rose appreciation he has helped to build.
It is with great pleasure that we recognise this extraordinary contribution tonight with SANA's highest accolade - the Gold Award."
On behalf of Ludwig, and all of us as his family, we extend our sincere gratitude to the South African Nursery Association for this incredible recognition. We are deeply honoured by this award and humbled by the generosity of these words. 🌹🏅
