THE FINAL TEST - THEUNISSEN BOARD - END OF THE ULTRA LONG SEASON 2026

Theunissen Board Ultra Long Distance Race,is not a speed race. It is the last of the 3 ultra longs in this Board. It is a long race, a hard race, but it is not the ultimate farthest. The ultimate is just above Theunissen, further north. But Theunissen is nother one everyone fears, because it is 944km of true Karoo, with no free ride.

WHAT IS THEUNISSEN - THE HISTORY

Theunissen is a small town in the heart of the Free State, in the Lejweleputswa region, about 95 kilometers northeast of Bloemfontein and about 45 kilometers south of Welkom on the R30 road.

The town was established on 13 September 1907, Proclamation 41 of 1907. It was founded by Boer War Commandant Helgaardt Theunissen, named after him in honour of his service in the war. Before that the place was known as Smaldeel.

It is a farming and mining community, small community, only 9.2 square kilometers. It has the only W**e Eestate in the Free State, the Theunissen W**e Farm. It is flat, open, grasslands, big skies.

That is why Cape Fanciers liberate pigeons there. It is flat, open, hot, no landmarks. The birds must cross the Karoo, over the same flat farmlands and grasslands that made the town. There is no help from mountains to guide them. Only heart and experience.

On 09 October 2026, liberated at 06:00:00 sharp in Theunissen, 371 members sent 2656 birds on the Federated Board take sky. This was the final exam.

REAL WEATHER - WHAT THEY EXPECTED - NO FREE RIDE

The weather prediction before the race. Over most of the inland lengths of the Karoo, the forecast was NW wind. North West. Plus n north north west in parts.

That is a straight headwind for birds flying back to Cape Town. Not a tailwind. Not a push. A headwind.

In this bird's world, every km is earned on its own. No gifted wind help. No free ride. If you want to come home, you must beat the wind yourself.

The prediction said no bird will make it on day one. They expected birds to come next day. Because there was no way birds will make it through 944km into a NW NNWheadwind, with hot Karoo by day, cold Karoo by night.

Official forecast:
Free State inland: 33 to 34C, hot, fine and warm to hot, wind NW headwind.
Paarl arrival side: 13 to 18C, overcast, occasional showers, wind 4 to 5 m/s S-E, gusting 27 to 30 km/h.

Hot Karoo, cold Karoo, wet coast. All headwind. Only work. No help. Every wing beat was earned. Her wind beat was earned.

THE WINNER - YOU CANNOT BEAT EXPERIENCE

1st Federated Board - HJ EHRENREICH
1st Union Paarl District - HJ EHRENREICH
1st Club - HJ EHRENREICH

Union: 44 Members / 357 Birds
Federated: 371 Members / 2656 Birds

Bird: ZPHS FBYB 20 21509 CWF H
THEUNISSEN BOARD QUEEN
Distance: 944.681 KM
Clock Time: 06:12:50 on 10 October 2026 - second day morning
Velocity: 1150.8804 m/min

But she was the FIRST clock on second day. And look how front she was.

2nd place clocked 06:49:08. That is 36 minutes behind. 3rd place 07:40:43. That is almost 1 hour 28 minutes behind. In a Federated Board Truck of 2656 birds, she was way front from second to third and all the rest.

That time means this bird was overnight very, very close from the loft. On Saturday morning 10 October, at 06:12:50, just after sunrise, she was already home. She spent the night in the Karoo, alone, in the cold, into a NW headwind the whole way, and she did not stop. She roosted close to Paarl Valley and came at first light.

In her world, there is no free km. Each km is beaten. 944.681 km of NW in her face, and she beat every one.

THE BLOOD AND THE HISTORY - IN HJ EHRENREICH'S OWN WORDS

This hen was bred as follows. From the father side, out of the Herman Vuurens line of Charles Kerekes, which was also responsible for my Kimberley Board winner in 2024. From the mother side, Wegge Jansen x Bulldog x double Board winner bought from Mr Ahmed.

The hen did not race during 2025 and flew Kroonstad and Vryburg every year except as a young bird.

Some of her positions:
2024 - 19th Vryburg Board
2022 - 26th Kroonstad Board
2023 - 34th Vryburg Board
2023 - 62nd Kroonstad Board, etc

RESPECT AND THE UNBREAKABLE BOND

Mr HJ Ehrenreich, is a very well respected fancier in the Federated Board. One of our eldest. He is known to win in the PDHU He is a master class, especially long distance.

You don't see it a lot nowadays that people fly 5 year, 6 year old birds. Especially with a bird that has a good track record. Most fanciers, after one, two or three years, when the bird earns his respect, that bird is already in the breeding loft.

Why? Because they are scared. If the bird does one or two times good, they get scared to lose a Board winner. They put her straight to stock.

Mr Ehrenreich is not scared. His trust in his birds is a unbreakable bond. He knows his birds. He knows his craft. He still keeps believing. He is not too afraid to lose that hen. Because he knows her blood already runs through his loft. Her children and grandchildren are there. That is why he keeps pushing her. Because he trusts her to always come back and to proof anyone wrong doubt it.

That is the trust between the owner and his bird. The unbreakable bond. This is 6 years together. Every morning, every feeding, every training, every Karoo night, every NW headwind etc. He knows her. She knows him. She knows how to hide from predator birds, how to find water, how to sleep safe in the Karoo, how to beat a NW wind when young birds give up.

Look what year. 2020. Six years old in 2026, not raced in 2025, kept, rested, then comes back and wins one of the hardest ultra long distance races in the Federated Board against 2656 birds, 36 minutes front, into a NW headwind, with no free ride. That is not luck. That is heart built over years, over many Karoo nights, over an unbreakable bond. Every km earned. Every wind beat earned.

HJ Ehrenreich did not just win a race. He kept a champion for 6 years, healthy, motivated, loved. That is fanciership.

That is why you cannot beat experience.

Congratulations HJ EHRENREICH - THEUNISSEN BOARD CHAMPION 2026 - THE ULTIMATE ENDURANCE BIRD - FIRST ON SECOND DAY, 36 MINUTES FRONT, NW HEADWIND, NO FREE RIDE, ALL EARNED - FROM THE LEGENDARY TOWN FOUNDED 1907 BY COMMANDANT HELGAARDT THEUNISSEN.

GRIT AND HEART - BEUKES & RUDOLPH - SPRINGFONTEIN BOARD TRIPLE CROWN 2026

When the Karoo tests you, it shows who you really are.

Springfontein is not just a race point. It is a small farming town in the Free State, founded in 1904, a vital railway junction, but for us pigeon men it is the Karoo's heart. Flat, dry, open, merciless. No mountains to guide, no buildings for cover, just sun, wind and endless scrub.

That is why Western Cape fanciers both love it and fear it. For generations our birds must fly it. 800 km is not just distance, it is character. It tests everything.

On 10 September 2026, liberated at 06:00:00 sharp, they got the real Springfontein test.

THE FIGHT HOME TO PAARL VALLEY

in Paarl is predominantly west and south wind, and on 10 September 2026 it was exactly that. The dominant wind for the race was SSW / Southerly headwind, building to 23.4 km/h, overcast with morning fog.

The birds fly from Springfontein NE to Paarl SW. A wind from SSW/S blowing to NNE is a direct headwind. They flew SW straight into a SSW/S wind coming at them, punching them on the shoulder and face for 744km. They had to bank hard, fight the drift, drop low to the scrub just to survive. Every kilometer paid for in wingbeats.

WHY WE JUDGE BY VELOCITY - BECAUSE VELOCITY IS HEART

Not every bird that arrives is equal. The clock tells the truth about the fight.

1200-1250 m/min is average. Nearing 1300 m/min it is fast. Above 1400 plus m/min it is extremely fast. Below 1000 m/min it is tough. Below that, it is extremely difficult and disastrous.

In that brutal SSW/S headwind, Beukes & Rudolph's little champion ZA/FB 25 19859 BB C flew 744.100 KM at 1245.4599 m/min. Clocked Day 1 at 15:57:27.

That number is not just speed. That is grit. That is a bird that refused to be drifted, that fought the headwind for 744km and said Paarl Valley is home, and I will be there today. A bird with a heart bigger than the Karoo.

THE BLOOD THAT MADE THE HEART

In their own words:

The little pigeon that won the Springfontein Board for us ZA/FB 19859 was one of our best yearlings for the 2026 season. She was bred from a c**k that we borrowed from Vos & Van Vuuren from their family of pigeons that are true base pigeons and her mother is from the Kaasboer pigeons of Rhoda & Newman. Her father flew 3rd FBHU Truck and her mother flew 2nd FBHU Truck. Good genetics from two top lofts put together and that bred our Springfontein Board winner for the 2026 season.

Vos & Van Vuuren true base on the sire side, Rhoda & Newman Kaasboer on the dam side. Father 3rd FBHU Truck x Mother 2nd FBHU Truck = Springfontein Board Winner. Champions breeding champions.

A TRUE SAMPLE OF PARTNERSHIP - WHAT WE CAN ALL LEARN

This year Beukes & Rudolph was remarkable. Not just one lucky win, another winner in the Union.

1st Club NOHS 13 Members 115 Birds
1st Union PDHU Paarl District 49 Members 432 Birds
1st Federated Board 396 Members 3098 Birds - TRIPLE CROWN.

But here is the real story. We have seen so many partnerships. They start with big dreams, and then no more. They break up.

Why? Small things become big things. What to put in the water tray. What to put over the food. When to train, when to rest. Two men, one loft, two opinions, and it breaks.

Beukes & Rudolph is a true sample we can all learn from. A true testimony of what a partnership should be.

What makes them last? One loft, one mind. Divide the jobs, but respect the jobs. Share the knowledge, hide nothing. No ego when birds are sick or lost. You don't blame, you sit together and fix it.

Everyone thinks partnership is easy when birds are winning. True partnership is tested when you lose 20 birds on a bad day.

They didn't just breed a fast bird. They bred a tough bird. A Karoo bird. A Paarl Valley bird with Paarl Valley heart that no SSW wind can break.

In a sport where so many partnerships are no more,

Beukes & Rudolph stands. One loft. One mind. One heart. One passion. For years.

That is why they are Springfontein Board Champions. That is grit. That is heart.

Congratulations Beukes & Rudolph!

ENd OF SEASON CLOSE 2026

As the 2026 season closes, we say thank you.

Thank you to every bird that came home, and to those that did not - you taught us.

Thank you to Beukes & Rudolph for showing us what grit, heart and true partnership looks like.

This is how we close the season - with respect for the Karoo, love for the pigeon, and pride in one sport, one passion, one family.

See you next season, stronger.

ONE SPORT. ONE PASSION. ONE FAMILY.

FINAL RACE 2026 - SPRINGFONTEIN - 720KM TO CAPE TOWN
*Good Luck to All Federated Board Members*

Federated Board Family,

We have reached the end of the road.

Friday 09 Oct - Theunissen
Saturday 10 Oct - SPRINGFONTEIN - 720km back to Cape Town - The LAST one.

This was a long, hard season. For some it was easy, for some it was tough. Birds we lost, birds that made us cry with pride. Wind, heat, cold, dust. Early mornings. Late traps. That is this sport we love.

720km. From the heart of the Free State, back to the Mother City. The last time the truck doors open for 2026. When those birds rise at sunrise over Springfontein, they carry a whole season on their wings.

Look how far we have come together, from the first race to today. Not just kilometers - as friends, as competitors, as ONE FAMILY.

To every fancier in the Federated Board - From the smallest loft to the biggest - I wish you a safe, clean, honest race. May they all come home. May your champion find his way fast.

Thank you for 2026. Thank you for the sport.

Good luck, my brothers. See you on the last result one last time.

PDHU - FINAL RACE 2026 - SPRINGFONTEIN - 10 OCTOBER 2026 πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ

PDHU!,

We have come to the end.

Friday 09 October 2026 - THEUNISSEN
Saturday 10 October 2026 - SPRINGFONTEIN - FINAL RACE

This was not an easy season. For some it was good, for some it was hard. Long hours. Early mornings. Birds lost. Birds that made us proud. Dust, wind, Karoo heat, mountains, heartbreak and glory. That is pigeon racing.

From the first short toss to now - Springfontein, the last one. Look how far we have come together. Every kilometer, every race sheet, every basket.

To every member of Paarl District Homing Union - GOOD LUCK for the last race of 2026.

May your birds come straight. May they come high over the mountain. May they trap fast.

Win or lose, we finish as ONE FAMILY. Because this sport is not just about winning. It is about the love of the pigeon. The love of coming home.

Thank you for a long, hard, beautiful season.

See you at the clock one last time.

*GOOD LUCK PDHU!*

WHEN STRYDENBURG - THE TOWN OF STRIFE - SORTS THE CHAMPIONS: PICARDIE SD TAKES BOARD 2

STRYDENBURG BOARD 2 - 27 September 2026 - 08:00 Liberation
Strydenburg to Paarl - 603.034KM
UNION: 51 Members / 409 Birds | FEDERATED: 388 Members / 3,114 Birds

This was not a young bird race. This was Board 2. Open.

YRB had just left Strydenburg. Now the truck opened for the seniors. The hard heads. The birds with real kilometers on the wing. Same 600km Karoo line, but a different test. You don't fluke Board 2. You earn it.

WHY STRYDENBURG:
Strydenburg means Town of Strife. Founded in the 1890s in the Pixley ka Seme, Northern Cape, out of an argument about where to build the church. They argued so long they named the town after the strife itself. Lat -29.94313, Long 23.676. Hot, flat, dry, thorny BWh desert.

That is why pigeon men respect it. Strydenburg does not lie. No coast to follow, no hills to hide behind. Just 603km of honest, open Karoo air down to the Boland. If your bird is not ready, Strydenburg will show you. If he is ready, he will make you famous. It is a graveyard for the weak and a springboard for long-distance kings.

On 27/09/2026 at 08:00, 3,114 proven birds from 388 lofts stared south from that town of strife. One question only: who wants home the most?

THE WINNER:
PICARDIE SD - DHS
BIRD: FB 25 11280 CH H
DISTANCE: 603.034KM
CLOCKED: 16:09:23 | VELOCITY: 1232.2324 mpm

1ST UNION - PAARL DISTRICT HOMING UNION - STRYDENBURG BOARD 2 - 409 Birds / 51 Lofts
5TH FEDERATED BOARD - 3,114 Birds / 388 Members
WHATS 5TH ON THE ENTIRE TRUCK

One loft. One bird. Top of the Union. Top 5 in the whole Federated.

THE LONG-DISTANCE FAMILY:
This winner comes from our long-distance family - Tom Lock / Weggy / Rothgeaser / Schoeman Putterie. These are not short sprint lines. These are lines built for the Karoo. As a young bird he was always there, regularly Top 3 in the loft. Not a one-race wonder. He was bred to go long and he showed it when it counted.

HOW WE KNOW HE IS READY:
Calmness. When he is ready, he sits calm. He feels full and balanced in the hand. No stress. No nerves. No fighting. When a long-distance pigeon feels like that, you know he can do 600km. You can feel it before the basket.

THE LOFT EDGE:
Because of our loft location in Paarl Valley, he came ideally high from the South-East over the mountain. For us that is everything. He did not come low and stuck behind the mountain. He came high, over the top, saw home, and dropped. Born in Paarl Valley. Built to fly home.

ADVICE FROM THE HEART - FOR BEGINNERS WHO WANT LONG DISTANCE:
If you want to race long distance, give your birds enough rest between long races. That is it. Everyone wants to race every week. Champions know when to rest. That is why Picardie was fresh on Board 2. You cannot grind a long-distance bird. You must trust him, rest him, and let him tell you when he is ready.

This is what Board racing is about. Grit. Patience. Family. Not the young promise. The proven bird that knows the road home.

LEEU-GAMKA 04 - THE LAST SHORT DANCE - BENJAMIN 58 LOFT TAKES THE UNION CROWN! πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ†

On Saturday 04 October 2026 at 08h00, the doors opened in Leeu-Gamka. And as always, once again Leeu-Gamka gave us a fast one, one last time. Tailwind behind the wings, home calling loud - the birds came like rockets to the Paarl Valley.

320km from the Karoo dust to the loft. That's the Leeu-Gamka promise.

But why is Leeu-Gamka so famous? Why do we do it FOUR times?

Lee-Gamka is not just a race point on the N1 road. It's history. This little Karoo dorpie between Beaufort West and Laingsburg - where the Gamka River cuts through stone - was built on the railway, on travellers stopping between Cape and the interior. For our Capetown pigeon men, it became the perfect school.

See, Lee-Gamka is *short distance* - around 300km to Cape Town. Not hard on the wings. Not breaking young hearts. That's the secret.

For Cape Town fanciers, our season is built with heart. The long distance warriors need a break between the monsters races. And our *later-bred babies* - those young late youngsters, still with soft eyes - they need experience.

That is why we have *4 x Leeu-Gamka*.

Leeu-Gamka gives those babies their first taste of home. First short. First fear. First glory. It builds them. It teaches navigation, endurance, courage - without killing they flying spirit. So when they are put on the truck for the longer races later, they are ready. They have seen the Karoo, they have felt the wind, they know what it means to fly home to Paarl Valley.

Between the long races, Leeu-Gamka is the gift - a chance for the younger and the late to become racers.

And on *Leeu-Gamka 04*, the last of the short dance, one loft stood tallest.

STANDING OVATION - BENJAMIN 58 LOFT (NOHS) πŸ‘

With his champion *BPF 25 904 BL H* clocked at *10:56:13 - 1685.8054 mpm* over *297km*.

*1ST CLUB NOHS - 202 Birds / 13 Members*
*1ST PDHU UNION - 753 Birds / 48 Members*
*2ND FEDERATED BOARD TRUCK - 5773 Birds / 404 Members*

In a fast tailwind race where every second counts, Benjamin's bird read the wind perfectly. Straight, fast, fearless - like a true Paarl Valley pigeon. Born in Paarl Valley. Built to fly home.

This was not just a win. This was experience meeting opportunity. This is what Lee-Gamka is for.

THE BREEDING - HOW SHE WAS BRED:

Father: *BB WF C 633 PPL 22* - 32e Finaal Dispatch Hokke 2023
His sire is *"Cradock"* - 32e Finaal Karoo Million 2021.
Cradock is out of *658 (Son of Mr Mann - Helmut Mann Germany)* x *207 Gigi (Daughter of Pieces of Eight)*.
Mr Mann: 2e Final Carnival City & 2e Ace Bird. Family to *Said in Spun Silver* - 2e Sun City Million Dollar.
Gigi 207 is Stam Moeder AJW Lofts - Mother of 3x Hot Spot Winners Dinokeng.

Mother: *BB WF H 1661 WBUD 2019* - Top hen from the best of *Mike Ganus USA*. A proven breeder.

Final blood x Final blood x World blood. Bred with a plan.

ADVICE FROM THE CHAMPION - In His Own Words: BENJAMIN 58 LOFT

"Try get hold of good birds. Keep them healthy. And put some effort in them. Good results don't fall out the sky. You must work for that. It takes time. It takes a lot of energy. If you need guidance, ask one or two fanciers doing well - ask them the basic but they might let out some secret to you. You will be surprised. Asking them general things like how, feeding and training. Small things we sometimes miss, we can learn alote from other fanciers. And in the end. the birds will do the rest."
Benjamin 58 Loft

Bred with knowledge. Won with hard work. That's the Paarl way.

Congratulations Benjamin 58 Loft - you closed our Short Distance 2026 with heart and class. The whole PDHU family salutes you.

Now we rest the sprinters. We let the babies grow. The long road calls one more time, ending off Racing Season 2026 with the Springfontein 800km and Theunissen 950km races, waiting for the Braveheart one last time for 2026.
