It was absolutely incredible for us to honour our Motlopi Award recipient at the Naledi Theatre Awards at the South African State Theatre.

The Motlopi Award recognises artists whose work extends far beyond the stage. It celebrates those who nurture the creative landscape and understand that true artistry is not only about performance, but about planting seeds of change, sustaining communities, and ensuring that creativity continues to grow for future generations.

It is our greatest honour to add Mamela Nyamza to the growing wall of Motlopi Award recipients.

Congratulations, Your voice, courage, and artistry continue to inspire many of us.

Today we celebrate fellow board member, the incomparable Gregory Vuyani Maqoma, on the opening of Genesis at the Baxter Theatre last night.

Genesis is powerful, stirring, and unflinching. A work of soaring movement and aching struggle, it blends voices and bodies into a visceral language that speaks powerfully to the heart. It confronts hatred head-on — not with more violence, but with what is most beautiful and resilient in our humanity.

Last night the stage held space for grief, rage, tenderness, and hope — and in doing so, asked us to look again at ourselves and each other.

Congratulations, Gregory, on another extraordinary moment. May Genesis continue to move hearts, unsettle certainties, and fire us up for the struggles ahead!

The Western Cape Community Arts Centre Touring Programme is officially in motion, and the creative exchanges have begun.

As part of the Touring Circuit, Music Movement from the West Coast is currently facilitating a Music Training Programme at Prince Albert Community Trust in the Central Karoo.

This week-long residency is focused on skills transfer and capacity building, equipping PACT with the tools and knowledge to implement a sustainable music programme for young people in their community. Through hands-on training, collaboration, and shared practice, the foundation is being laid for long-term artistic growth and youth development.

This is exactly what the Touring Programme is designed to do: strengthen Community Arts Centres, deepen collaboration, and expand creative opportunity across the province.

We look forward to the public showcase at the end of the residency and to seeing how this new music programme takes root in Prince Albert.

Welcoming a New Board Member

We are proud to welcome Sibongakonke Kheswa to the STAND Foundation Board.

SK joins us as a highly respected investment professional with extensive experience in corporate finance, valuation, capital raising, and strategic advisory across South Africa and the broader African continent. His work spans the public and private sectors, including development finance institutions and private investors, with a strong focus on governance, financial strategy, and long-term sustainability across sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, education, and social impact.

Beyond finance, SK brings a genuine and long-standing connection to the arts. His journey began in dramatic arts during high school, continued through award-winning performance at the University of Johannesburg, and extended to international stages as part of an award-winning choir at the World Choir Games.

This unique balance of financial expertise and cultural insight will be invaluable as STAND continues to strengthen governance, diversify funding strategies, and deepen its impact across the creative sector.

We warmly welcome SK to the STAND family and look forward to the leadership and perspective he brings to our collective work.

Today marks the start of the Community Arts Centres National Indaba — a critical moment to reflect, align, and boldly shape the future of Community Arts Centres across South Africa.

This Indaba must move beyond discussion and decide. Together, we are called to:

• Understand the findings of the Research and Review Report and agree on the most effective model for delivering Community Arts Centre programmes
• Commit to a practical plan of action with clear roles across national, provincial, and local government
• Engage the funding framework for CACs through a Conditional Grant that enables predictable funding, strengthens accountability, and supports long-term infrastructure and programme planning
• Lock in intergovernmental cooperation
• Build a national platform for excellence in community arts delivery
• Affirm Community Arts Centres as a proven model for sustainable infrastructure and impactful programming

This Indaba is about vision, coordination, and action — ensuring that Community Arts Centres remain vibrant, accessible, and transformative spaces for our communities. 📷: Ms Nontutuzelo Sekhabi (DSAC)/ Dr Cynthia Khumalo ( DG DSAC)

🎟️ BOOK HERE: https://bxr.mobi/hammer

Grammy-nominated clarinetist David Krakauer and innovative pianist, composer and producer Kathleen Tagg unite for a once-off fundraiser concert that celebrates music as a force for human connection. Breath & Hammer Acoustic is an intimate, unplugged programme at the crossroads of classical, klezmer, world music and improvisation.

Showcasing their unorthodox, virtuosic playing at close quarters, the duo reimagines traditional tunes, global composer works and originals shaped by jazz, minimalism and symphonic colour. A passionate and deeply personal musical encounter that transcends style and culture. The concert is in aid of the Sustaining Theatre and Dance Foundation.
