When I first heard about the Work 4 a Living programme, I was hesitant. I already had years of work experience — what could a course teach me that life hadn't already? I signed up anyway, and walking into that classroom, I quickly realised I was one of the older participants. I won't lie — it stung a little.
But something unexpected happened. My experience became a gift to the room. The younger participants were drawing from my stories, my mistakes, my lessons. And at the same time, what was being taught in that classroom was far beyond anything I had encountered in all my years of working. It challenged my mindset in ways I never anticipated.
I had to be honest with myself: my work ethic needed work. My attitude towards employment had been holding me back. The programme gave me the humility to start again — and I did. I took a part-time position as a general worker at a new company, a role I would once have overlooked without a second thought.
Today, I am the Receptionist at that same company. And I know, without a doubt, that this is only the beginning. My future is limitless.
