💛 3 Weeks Until We Meet Our Little Mia 💛

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,

We are now just 3 weeks away from welcoming our precious baby girl, Mia, into the world.

As many of you know, Mia was diagnosed with a congenital heart block, and these past months have been filled with specialist appointments, monitoring, travel, and preparing for a high-risk delivery. While we're incredibly grateful to have made it this far, the reality is that the medical and related expenses continue to grow as we approach her birth.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who has shared our story, kept us in their thoughts and prayers, and supported us along the way. Your kindness has carried us through some very difficult days.

A few people have asked how they can help. If you feel led and are in a position to contribute financially, any amount—no matter how small—would make a meaningful difference and help us cover the ongoing medical and travel costs associated with Mia's care.

Hi everyone ❤️

We’ve had a few questions about Mia’s diagnosis, so we wanted to explain it in a simple way.

Mia has been diagnosed with congenital heart block. This means there is a delay in the electrical signals that control her heartbeat.

In a normal heart, the top chambers (atria) and bottom chambers (ventricles) work together in a coordinated rhythm. In Mia’s case, the top chambers are beating at a normal rate, but the signal to the bottom chambers is delayed or blocked. Because of this, her lower heart rate is much slower than it should be.

Right now, her upper heart rate is around 130 beats per minute, but her lower heart rate is only around 60–65 beats per minute. This difference is why she needs very close monitoring.

After she is born, she will likely need a pacemaker. This is a small device that helps regulate her heartbeat by sending electrical signals to keep her heart beating at a safe and steady rate.

Without it, her heart may not be able to maintain a stable rhythm on its own, which can affect how well oxygen is delivered throughout her body.

At the moment, we are being closely monitored every week to make sure her heart rate stays stable until delivery.

We are sharing this so people can understand her journey a little better. Thank you again for every prayer, message, and bit of support—it truly carries us through this. ❤️🙏🏻

Hi everyone,

My name is Martin, and this page is for our little girl, Mia. ❤️

After walking through the heartbreak of three miscarriages, we were overjoyed to find out we were expecting her. This pregnancy means everything to us.

Recently, Mia was diagnosed with congenital heart block. Her heart’s top chamber is beating normally, but the bottom chamber is much slower. Because of this, we now have to monitor her closely every week. If her heart rate drops too low, my wife may need an emergency C-section.

We live in Mossel Bay, but all specialist care and her delivery will need to take place in Cape Town. This brings ongoing travel, accommodation, and medical costs, including a R15,000 hospital co-payment for admissionalone. After birth, Mia will need a pacemaker, and we don’t yet know how long she will need to stay in hospital.

Emotionally, this has been incredibly overwhelming. There’s a lot of uncertainty, and we’re doing everything we can to give Mia the best possible chance.

We created this page to share her journey, and to ask—if you feel led—for your support. Whether it’s a prayer, sharing this page, or any form of help, it truly means the world to us.

Thank you for standing with us and with Mia. 🙏🏻❤️
