We provide whatever is needed to save lives or improve living conditions of wildlife: infrastructure, consumables, medicines, capital items, food - even relocation services for Wildlife needing better environments. We always endeavour to leave an animal in a better state or place than where we found it. The welfare of wildlife is our main concern, and we will do whatever it takes and whatever is possible to help – sometimes even having achieved the impossible! Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation is actively involved in raising awareness and educating the youth to appreciate the value of our rich, but threatened Biodiversity, and to protect our magnificent Wildlife Heritage. We teach that a world with humans living in Harmony with Nature and Wildlife is possible, and should be the ultimate goal for everyone. WHWF is a multi-racial, non-political organization committed to taking the actions that best serve our Wildlife Heritage.

This cutie πŸ’πŸ’—πŸ’ is the latest graduate from quarantine - a period of isolation every new (bergskilpad) intake goes through to ensure they have no underlying illnesses to spread to the others in our care. Like so many, this little one was illegally kept as a pet, but now has a real chance at a free and wild future.

Tortoises are and it is illegal to keep them without a permit in South Africa. Fines start at R5000, or 6 months jailtime upon conviction.

Six more leopard tortoises (bergskilpaaie) brought in by the Mokopane SPCA last night. Together with another 6 they brought in last week, this brings the total amount of tortoise patients to 72, with 2 critically ill ones receiving treatment with specialized antibiotics at R400 (USD 25) each ➑️ per day ⬅️.
Some are victims of the illegal pet trade. But most of them, sadly, are from well-meaning people who ➑️ stimulated poaching and trade ⬅️ by πŸ’Έ buying πŸ’Έ them off people on the street. It is illegal to keep a tortoise without a permit. The fines start at R5000 or 6 months in jail. πŸ€”πŸ’ Just do the right thing!

When ZoΓ« the Bushbaby came to us after being shot with a pellet gun, we realized how vital it is to detect hidden pellets quickly and safely.

In wildlife care, every second matters. As we do not always have access to X-rays close to our center, this device is a game changer. (The closest vet ALWAYS willing to help - Dr. Marina Bredell from Kranskop Dierekliniek - is 87km away, and that works out to around R600 in fuel).

And then some angels enter the scene: Thanks to the incredible generosity of Richard Duncan & Elize Duncan, we now have a top‑of‑the‑range wall scanner! Not the modest one that was our wishlist, but the very best one from the supplier, that money could buy.

A tool usually used to find nails and beams in walls, but in our hands, it becomes a lifesaving device. With it, we can locate pellets and bullet fragments lodged in tiny bodies without delay, guiding urgent treatment and giving our patients the best chance at recovery.

This gift is more than equipment - it’s compassion in action. From Zoë’s survival to the many wild souls who will follow, Dick & Elize's support helps us turn pain into healing.

From Paul & Carina at Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation, thank you, for standing with us and our patients.

The most special of spots!
Two tiny serval kittens, only a few weeks old, reached us just in time 🐾 Severely dehydrated, skinny and fighting for survival, they are now safe in our care.
We suspect their mother was run over, leaving them alone and vulnerable in the bush for at least three days. They were discovered by a kind farmer while removing firewood from a pile of branches.
Now, every drop of fluid, every bite of food, is a step back towards life, health and freedom in the beautiful Bushveld. Every hiss and growl are confirmation that these babies have a very strong will to live.
Please support our work in caring for the most vulnerable, and saving lives. 🐾🧑🐾 You can support below.

Servals are and it carries heavy fines or jail-time to keep them without a permit.
