🐾❤️ We left with 1 and came home with 4. ❤️🐾
Yesterday, we headed into town to take Elvis, one of our rescue dogs, for his TVT treatment.
On the way, we received a call about a black dog running along the road with an injured paw near the clinic we were heading to. After a short search, we found her and her owner. Her name is Blackie.
We took Blackie to the vet with us, and her owner asked if she could stay with us while she recovers, as he is unable to provide the environment she needs to heal properly. Blackie is now safe in our care and receiving treatment for her injured paw.
While speaking with Blackie's owner, a friend visiting him asked if we could help two puppies living in a nearby field. He had been checking on them whenever he passed by, but when he saw them the week before there had been six puppies. Now, only two remained.
He led us to them, and what we found was heartbreaking. Their eyes were only just beginning to open, they were exposed to the elements, and one puppy was covered in wounds and old scabs.
We attempted to catch their mother, but she was too fearful to approach. With four puppies already lost and the remaining two in poor condition, we made the difficult decision to bring them to safety while we continue working to gain Mom's trust and bring her in too.
The puppies are now warm, safe, and being bottle-raised in our care. A generous supporter has already sponsored their first tub of milk replacer, for which we are incredibly grateful. ❤️
Some days in rescue just don't go according to plan. ✨
