Dear Melkbosstrand Community,
Many of you have been closely following the proposed Wesco Waste Management Facility over the past two years. Hereβs where things currently stand:
The Environmental Authorisation has now been granted by the Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning (DEA&DP) β subject to certain conditions.
However, this does NOT mean the project can proceed yet.
Wesco still requires three additional approvals before any construction or operation can begin:
* Waste Management Licence
* Water Use Licence
* Rezoning Approval
The Melkbosstrand Ratepayers Association (MRA), representing over 3,900 residents, has formally instructed its legal team to appeal this decision. Our legal advisors believe there are strong grounds to challenge both the approval and its conditions.
π¬ How you can get involved:
βοΈ Join the community initiative to oppose this development (Deadline: 27 March 2026)
The MRA will need a mandate to represent you:

βοΈ Submit your own appeal
Individuals have the right to lodge separate appeals by latest 9 April 2026

βοΈ Support the legal process
Contribute towards legal costs:

This is a critical phase in a complex, ongoing process. The MRA remains fully committed to protecting the interests of the Melkbosstrand community and will continue to keep you informed every step of the way.
Together, our voices matter.
