Every child deserves to be seen, understood, and supported. And in ways that recognise who they are đź’™

On World Autism Awareness Day, under the theme “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,” we are reminded that inclusion requires intentional action: in classrooms, in communities, and in how we design systems that support children.

For children on the spectrum, this means access, acceptance, and environments that enable them to thrive on their own terms. As we mark 30 years of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, we continue to advocate for a society that does not just include, but truly values every child.

SOUTH AFRICAN LIBRARY WEEK 2026

South African Library Week (SALW) 2026 takes place from 16–22 March 2026. This year’s theme is “Reclaiming Knowledge, Empowering Futures”. Organized by the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), this annual initiative highlights the essential role libraries play in promoting literacy, providing free access to information, and fostering social cohesion and lifelong learning within communities

In celebration of the SALW 2026 the DRJSMLM in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation and Ithungelelano LesiNdebele (NPC) will launch the first three anthologies of 300 IsiNdebele words for Early Childhood Development (ECD) with 10 local ECD centres and 5 DRJSMLM public libraries to benefit from the collection.

This initiative will help to introduce the newly developed early learning IsiNdebele children’s books series anthologies, promote reading culture, improve access to indigenous languages learning materials, support literacy development at foundation phase level and strengthen the partnership between ECDs and public libraries during the South African Library Week.

The event aligns with the National priorities on mother tongue literacy, early childhood development and access to books in indigenous languages.
