Howick Umngeni River Conservancy Registered Conservancy based in Howick, KZN along the Umngeni River below Midmar Dam. There was no conservancy as such. It was just bushveld.

A place to enjoy the outdoors and beautiful natural environment with friends, family and fur-kids.

Where it all began- Long-time custodian of the river walk, Bill Speight, moved to Moonwalk Road in 1989. One felt like Jo

ck of the Bushveld as one made one's way through the tall grass. Later, a team including Alan Gray started to cut paths. Environmentally friendly- The constitution of the conservancy is to keep the paths and environment in it’s most natural state and not to interfere with the natural environment

Pet Friendly- The river walk is pet- friendly and all well socialized pets are welcome! We kindly ask you to pick up after your pets. Volunteer run- The Conservancy is managed by a team of volunteers that dedicate their time to creating an eco-friendly family environment for all to enjoy. The uMngeni River Howick Conservancy is run on donations alone to maintain the paths, control alien vegetation and general upkeep of the environment. Donations would be greatly appreciated:

Join the One Planet SA team for a fun afternoon of splashing around while learning how to become Citizen Scientists for our river.
The young and old learn to read our river by working like a detective and identifying what 'nunus' we find.
We will also test for nitrates and phosphates!
No experience is required - let's help scientists keep track of what is happening in our catchments!
Fun for all ages!

Sat 30 Nov 6:30 pm Meet at Moonwalk Drive parking at Conservancy.
