Revive Knysna A Community group of volunteers passionate about reviving and beautifying Knysna, keeping it looking clean, green, safe and beautiful 😍

Revive Knysna has left no stone unturned in proving that their passion and determination to make Knysna beautiful again is what motivates this team of local volunteer residents. The transformation of Waterfront Drive in a matter of weeks has kicked off the team’s current focus of uplifting the C*D but they have all kinds of exciting plans in the pipeline.

“Beautifying Knysna one community project at a time” is their motto. Relying solely on community support, the Knysna community has responded with generous donations of plants, top soil, designs, labour and funding – even the Knysna Fire Dept was seen watering the freshly laid beds with the Knysna Parks Dept carting away loads of rubbish after the clean-up. The initial affiliation to the Greater Knysna Business Chamber legitimised the non-profit organisation and offered local businesses an opportunity to get involved. This dedicated group believes that it is the small projects that will make all the difference in positively impacting the town and its people - creating a mind-shift of ‘it starts with me’. Leading by example, they want to inspire and motivate the Knysna community to hop on board with their movement. Encouraging every resident and business to begin by cleaning up their own verge and beautifying it where possible will have a massive impact on the town of Knysna. These small transformations should make Knysna tourist/visitor ready when international travel re-opens. Along with the project Revive Knysna is hoping to make use of the talents of its many artists in our community with plans to paint magnificent murals in key places around Knysna. Upgrades to popular walking/cycling paths are on the cards as are various clean-up challenges for certain areas. Revive Knysna is providing a platform to bring these, plus many more projects to life with the help of the Municipality, the Community and various NPO stakeholders. By inspiring and motivating the community into efficient action, one project at a time, we can all become – who knows, we may even get to win “Town of the year” again! Over the past couple of weeks, the Revive Knysna team has been hard at work along the N2 eastern entrance to Knysna, making sure this important gateway to our town is well maintained, neat and welcoming. 🌱

What happens when a river stops flowing? 🌊

Join us for an evening with Emeritus Professor Charles Breen, a Water Research Commission Legend who has spent more than 60 years studying rivers and estuaries.

In “Rivers and Estuaries: Reflections of an Ecologist,” Prof. Breen will share four stories from his career:
🐟 The Pongola floodplain, where people and rivers turned out to be inseparable
🏙️ The Mississippi, where a city is slowly sinking
🦌 The Kruger National Park, where rivers dried up and rare antelope vanished
🏞️ And closest to home, our own Knysna Estuary, with its ancient footprints, powerful tides and the question of how we look after it

A heartfelt thank you to the many active citizens and local businesses helping us care for and beautify Knysna ahead of the busy holiday season.

🌿 Thank you to a Leisure Isle resident for the wonderful donation of water-wise plants and to our Revive Knysna volunteer Quintin and his wonderful Revive Knysna Landy for the delivery, and of course to our team on the ground who will be planting these beauties in the large bed opposite Kwikspar.

Thank you to Sanlam Private Wealth for sponsoring the clean-up of George Rex’s family graves.

A special shout-out to our local resident, affectionately known as the “Lawn Fairy”, who regularly gives his time to mow the grass at our Waterfront Drive pocket park.

Maintenance #2
Keeping Knysna Beautiful!

Our team has been hard at work carrying out some much-needed maintenance following all the beautiful winter rains we’ve had!

We’ve been busy throughout central Knysna, focusing on Queen Street, the police station, business shopfronts along Main Road, and the market area opposite Memorial Square.

The winter rains have certainly encouraged everything to grow, and our team has been working hard to keep our town looking neat, tidy and welcoming.

LagoonSide Walk – Keeping Our Living Tribute Thriving!

A few months ago, Revive Knysna planted a beautiful avenue of Wild Plum Trees along LagoonSide Walk, each one donated in loving memory of someone special.

Our team has now returned to give these special trees some much-needed TLC, ensuring they continue to grow and flourish for years to come.

Planting trees is just the beginning – ongoing maintenance is what keeps our beautiful town green and thriving!

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful Revive Knysna volunteers, friends and their children who joined us for the annual Greater Knysna Spring Clean in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day!
A special thank you to Ocean Odyssey and everyone involved in bringing our community together for the good of our beautiful town.
Waterfront Drive and the taxi holding area are looking fantastic — clean, tidy and litter-free!
