OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Coalition for Rural Women Empowerment (CRWE)

The Coalition for Rural Women Empowerment (CRWE) is deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of a woman in Kalumbila District, who lost her life after being violently assaulted by a mob over allegations of causing a man’s manhood to disappear.

We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and mob justice. No individual deserves to be subjected to brutality, humiliation, or death based on unverified claims, fear, or harmful beliefs. Such actions not only violate fundamental human rights but also erode the rule of law and the values of dignity and respect within our communities.

This incident highlights the urgent need for increased awareness, education, and community engagement to challenge harmful myths and practices that disproportionately put women at risk. It also underscores the importance of strengthening law enforcement responses to mob violence and ensuring that justice is served.

CRWE calls upon:

Law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and hold all those responsible accountable.

Community leaders to take an active role in promoting peace, critical thinking, and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

Government and civil society to intensify efforts in rural sensitization programs addressing gender-based violence and harmful traditional beliefs.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.

CRWE remains committed to advocating for the protection, empowerment, and dignity of women in rural communities across Zambia.

We are very disheartened by the ongoing headlines of child defilement in our country.
We call on the government to seriously look into to this matter and stiffen the punishment for perpetrators.🇿🇲
Mr Hakainde Hichilema sir, we are calling on you to look into this issue.

Mtendere men gang defile 5-year old girl

A FIVE year old girl of Lusaka's Mtendere Compound is in anguishing pain and admitted to the University Teaching Hospital after a traumatic ordeal of being gang r***d by four men in her neighbourhood.

Impeccable sources told Kalemba that the innocent child is currently receiving medical treatment at the UTH as authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident which occurred on March 11, 2025, came to light after the girl’s parents noticed their child experiencing severe discomfort when using the toilet with the way she was answering the call of nature frequently.

The child would also mess herself up before using the toilet.

The sources said, initially the parents mistook the symptoms for diarrhea.

However, it was later revealed that the young girl had been subjected to a brutal and repeated assault, where the four men repeatedly inserted their private parts into the a**s of the child.

Traumatised by what she had gone through and fearing for her life, the child had been too scared to speak out as the perpetrators had reportedly threatened to kill her if she ever dared disclose the incident.

Kabwata police have since arrested two of the four suspects involved in the crime and the apprehended individuals have been identified as 22 year old W***y Phiri and Lawrence Phiri, aged 20, both residents of Mtendere East.

A manhunt has been launched for the remaining two suspects who are still at large.

Efforts to get a full police report from police public relations officer Rae Hamoonga proved futile as calls and text messages went unanswered.

We are saddened by this reading and would like to urge the government to ensure that justice is served.
When organizations speak about injustice and such acts being perpetrated by people who are meant to protect the public, we hear cases of perpetrators being released by the local authorities without serving their time.
Let this be an example.

FOUR POLICE OFFICERS CHARGED WITH RA**NG A TEEN

Four police officers in Luangwa who took turns in sexually molesting a drunk teenage girl they had arrested have been charged with r**e. Police public relations officer Rae Hamoonga confirmed the development.

The suspects are chief inspector Kebby Hamainde, sergeant Cuthbert Monde and constables Morgan Muleya and Crispin Chunda.

“All [the police officers] were charged and awaiting to appear in court,” Mr Hamoonga said in a response to a query.

Three weeks ago, four male police officers in Luangwa were detained for allegedly ra**ng a drunk 18-year-old girl they had apprehended for idling outside a bar at night.

It is alleged that the girl was r***d by three of the police officers in a car parked at Luangwa Police Station, before a chief inspector took her to a lodge where he also forced himself on her.
