South Africa is generating more electricity than ever, yet millions of households still can't afford enough of it to live with dignity. Tariffs have climbed far beyond inflation, and many households legally entitled to Free Basic Electricity never receive it.

Starting from the Energy For All campaign and its call for 350kWh of free basic electricity a month, we ask: who is the energy transition being built for, and what changes when electricity is treated as a social right instead of a commodity?
