Our two IAAC Directors were privileged to be invited to the BFS Matric Motivational this morning to celebrate the Class of 2026 as they prepare to begin their final matric examinations.

With music, words of encouragement, celebrating top achievers and a beautiful breakfast spread, the morning was a wonderful reminder to these learners that they are cared for, supported and believed in as they take on this important milestone.

At I Am A Child, we believe that knowing you have people in your corner can make all the difference. đź’›

To the BFS Matric Class of 2026 — all the very best as you head into your finals! Trust in the work you have put in, take it one step at a time, and remember that you have a whole community rooting for you.

You've got this! 💪📚✨

Helping Grade 9 learners think about what comes next…

IAAC was grateful to collaborate with Basa Freedom School in supporting their Grade 9 learners through a Subject Choice Workshop as they begin preparing for the transition into the FET phase.

The session created an opportunity for learners to reflect on their strengths, interests and current subjects, while also learning more about the subject options available at their school. A special thank you to the high school teachers who shared their knowledge and practical guidance with the learners.

We were also pleased to offer learners and families the option of personalised subject choice assessment thereafter, at a nominal fee, for those who would benefit from more individualised guidance.

At IAAC, we believe that subject choice is not about having your whole future figured out at 15. It is about having the right information, understanding yourself, asking questions and making an informed next step.

Thank you to Basa Freedom School for partnering with us in supporting our young people as they explore their possibilities.

Every child deserves to be safe, heard, respected, and protected.

This Child Protection Week, let us all play our part in creating environments where children can thrive. Whether at home, at school, or in our communities, protecting children is everyone's responsibility.

Together, we can build a safer future for every child.

Continuing our May focus at BASA Freedom School, the IAAC team also spent time with our Grade 12 learners — creating space for a simple but often overlooked question:
How are you, really?

In a season where expectations are high and the focus is often on performance, many learners shared feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and simply in survival mode.

Alongside these conversations, we focused on small, practical ways to support their wellbeing — including sleep hygiene, diet and study tips as part of sustaining effort and consistency.

What stood out most was not just the pressure they are carrying, but how rarely they are given space to pause and reflect on their experience.

Learners were also encouraged to reach out to the IAAC team for additional support where needed during this time, as part of ongoing care and connection.

As part of our May focus at our partner school, BASA Freedom School, IAAC has been spending time supporting learners through both Grade 12 motivation and support initiatives, as well as beginning conversations around career development with our Grade 11 learners.

This week, we spent time creating space for Grade 11 learners to think about life beyond school, personal strengths, and the changing world of work — focusing not only on career choices, but also on adaptability, emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, and the reality that careers are often journeys rather than fixed destinations.

We’re looking forward to continuing these conversations with our Grade 11s over the coming weeks, alongside our ongoing work with the Grade 12 learners.

Last week, our IAAC team had the privilege of facilitating a workshop with Foundation and Intermediate Phase teachers at one of our partner schools, as part of our Guiding Hand Circle programme.

Our focus was on understanding and supporting barriers to learning in the classroom—looking at what these barriers really look like day-to-day, and how small shifts in teaching can make a meaningful difference for learners.

We were struck by the honesty, reflection, and care shown by the teachers in the room, especially in thinking about the learners they find most challenging to support.

Thank you to BASA Freedom School for trusting us with this space and for the work you continue to do with your learners.

We’ll be sharing more of these workshops as part of our Guiding Hand Circle offering. If your school or organisation would like to explore something similar, feel free to get in touch with us.

Taking time to pause, reflect, and plan forward... 🗨️ 🪴

Our recent strategic session brought us together to align our vision for Quarter 2 and the upcoming school term — with a continued commitment to meaningful, impactful work in the spaces we serve.

A sincere thank you to BONA Electronic Solutions for generously providing us with a boardroom space to host our session — your support made this time of connection and planning possible.

Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday, and a happy Easter to those celebrating.
