This phrase became synonymous with the unwavering spirit embodied by the 20,000 audacious women who, on 9 August 1956, led a powerful moment and movement in history as they marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against apartheidโ€™s oppressive pass laws.

70 years ago, led by the formidable Sophie de Bruyn, Rahima Moosa, Lilian Ngoyi, and Helen Joseph, these brave women delivered thousands of petitions, challenging the system with courage, dignity, and conviction. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Today, exactly 70 years since that historic march, Life Changing Leratoโ„ข Services and Nuru: Youth Collectiv honors the legacy of these extraordinary trailblazers of South Africaโ€™s Womenโ€™s Movement ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ who paved the way for us to soar.

As we continue to celebrate women and voices of progress across our nation through our series: She Inspires Me! ๐Ÿ’ซ, let us reignite their spirit of activism, mentorship, and solidarity.

Let us continue to support womenโ€™s rights, amplify womenโ€™s voices, pour forward into the next generation, and stand united for a more equitable society.

Share this post, support women-led initiatives, and celebrate the contributions of women every single day. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

70 years later, the march continues. Together, let us remember their courage, honor their legacy, and recommit to the pursuit of equality, purpose, and justice for all. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒโœจ

Africa is powering the global digital economy. Who is protecting Africaโ€™s women and youth in return? ๐ŸŒ

When water runs short, women walk further. When electricity fails, womenโ€™s businesses absorb the cost. When the digital economy grows without equity standards โ€” women and youth are last to benefit.

Nuru Youth Collectiv is entering the Green Digital Governance space โ€” advocating for standards that put women and youth at the centre of Africaโ€™s digital future.

These young men showed up on Friday โ€” not just to listen, but to serve. Setting up, preparing food, handing out dignity packs. And then sitting down to have their futures ignited.

In our commitment to empowering the girl child, we must not forget the boy child. The consequences of doing so are written in the statistics, in our streets, in a generation of young men without purpose or direction.

Nuru exists to change that โ€” raising young men who lead through service, who show up before the applause, and who grow into the nation builders they were created to be.

To our boys โ€” we see you. We are proud of you. ๐ŸคŽ

We invited her to speak. She came โ€” and then brought 25 pairs of shoes. ๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ’›

In 2026, there are still children walking to school barefoot in South Africa. Not by choice. Because their families cannot afford what many of us take for granted.

Dimakatso Nhlapo, Integrated Waste Management Lead at netcare_za, came to speak to our learners at Mafori Mphahlele High School last Friday about environmental sustainability โ€” and she arrived with 25 pairs of school shoes from the My Walk Made with Soul initiative by Netcare and Bryan Jimi.

These are not ordinary shoes. They are made from recycled IV drip bags, oxygen masks, and medical tubing. Just 20 empty IV bags = one pair of shoes. Brand new. Durable. Delivered with dignity.

Since 2020, My Walk Made with Soul has given nearly 400,000 pairs to South African learners.

For just R49, you can give a child a step into greatness.

Yesterday we went back to where it all began. ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’›
Nuru Youth Collectiv hosted our Career & Giveback Day at Mafori Mphahlele High School, Molapo, Soweto.

100 learners. 6 speakers. One community choosing to give.

Topics covered: the creative economy โ€ข branding & self-leadership โ€ข environmental health โ€ข sustainability & food security โ€ข the township economy (worth R1.3 trillion!) โ€ข entrepreneurship
Every speaker brought one message: resilience, purpose, and the courage to rise.

Then the gifts โ€” 25 pairs of shoes donated. Lunch for all. Sanitary towels for every female learner. Because dignity should never be seasonal.

Mandela would approve. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ ๐Ÿ’™

To every speaker, donor, and supporter โ€” thank you. Onwards and upwards. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

This past Saturday, Life Changing Lerato โ„ข Services and Nuru Youth Collectiv gathered at Cradlemoon Hiking Trails for our 3rd Annual Leadership Mastery Trek โ€” and what unfolded was nothing short of extraordinary.

What began as a hiking adventure became a living masterclass under the open sky โ€” picnic-style, outdoors, real conversations flowing as freely as the trail itself. This is exactly the kind of experience our Leadership Mastery Series was created for.

We were privileged to be addressed by two remarkable women:
๐——๐—ฟ K๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฎ โ€” who shared her journey through a PhD in women, leadership, and governance. She reminded us that women are capable and competent โ€” and that the evidence is in the rooms we enter, the research we produce, and the problems we solve. She spoke of the power of a strong WHY to carry you through the seasons when the road feels impossible, and left us with a truth we will not forget: it will cost you something to be great. But it will cost you even more to live below the life you were called to live.

๐—–๐˜†๐—ป๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฎ ๐— ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ โ€” who brought us into the tender, necessary conversation about healing. About the wounds we carry and keep pouring out of anyway. About the danger of giving from an empty cup. She reminded us that we are the sum total of our experiences โ€” and that community, real community, is not a bonus. It is the foundation.

To every woman who showed up on Saturday โ€” thank you. Your presence, your energy, and your willingness to walk, to listen, and to share made this day an unforgettable success.

This is what we build at Life Changing Leratoโ„ข Services and Nuru Youth Collectiv. Not just programmes. People. Not just skills. Souls. Not just ambition. Communities that hold each other as we grow.

We look forward to many more faithful engagements ahead. ๐Ÿ’›โ›ฐ๏ธ

07/07/2026

South Africaโ€™s youth unemployment rate remains among the highest in the world.

More than 60% of young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are not employed, not in education, and not in training.

This is not a skills crisis alone. It is a structural crisis. A systemic failure to create the enabling environments, the pathways, and the investment in young people that would allow their potential to convert into contribution.

Nuru Youth Collectiv exists at the intersection of this reality.

We do not accept youth unemployment as inevitable. We work every day โ€” through programmes, mentorship, advocacy, and partnerships โ€” to build the bridges between young people and the opportunities they deserve.

But we also advocate loudly for the policy, investment, and institutional change that only those with decision-making power can provide.

Young people are not a problem to be managed. They are a resource to be developed. And Africaโ€™s future depends on how well we do that work today.

Join our upcoming ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ & ๐—š๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜† on ๐—๐˜‚๐—น๐˜† ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ, ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ. Be the environment that enables a young person to rise.
