Drama at The South African Principals Association conference in Polokwane yesterday: presenting to a few hundred public sector school principals and deputies about how the NALEDI model can help schools become safer spaces if learners and teachers embark on a healing reflective journey. A key part of that journey is to build trust...hence we had a principal and deputy building a trust bridge on stage...lots of fun, lots of new learning.
Changing the public sector narrative, one conference, one principal at a time.

What a way to end the program! We are so proud of the grade 11's Mahlatsi Secondary School . They showed up, participated and took control. Today DELIVER ran a Trust workshop with over 35 young mothers and community members from Kliptown and Marikana informal settlements, Soweto - the first step of building a partnership with Hamba.Bamba.Funda.(HBF). It has been working in these settlements for the past few years.
The response was fantastic, the awakening to the possibilities of renewed trust was both scary and exciting for participants.
What made today very unusual was that all the mothers came with their small children...so facilitating was a new challenge...and a welcome one.
Looking forward to further partnership building, further engagement with this amazing community. Thanks to HBF for planning this workshop.

Naledi Shine leadership workshop Mahlatsi school covered Identity. The learners came face to face with who they are by answering the question "Who am I". See how they define what creates one's identity. Ultimately when all those layers are removed, we're faced with who we really are. A new cohort of grade 11's at Mphethi Mahlatsi started on the 1st of August. Enthusiastic young people who show up, participate and have fun. The guiding principles of Naledi Shine are covered by the 7R's. We're looking forward to workshop 2 on the 15th August which includes topics like Identity, Values and 2 Faces

So much learning - intellectual or social-emotional - happens informally...in the school corridor or on the school sports field or through socialising with friends & family. It doesn't have to be designed or planned engagements for it to happen. Youth find their shine in all sorts of ways.

A powerful reminder that the best learning happens when we move beyond the classroom. 🌍📚
