Infinite Family Join Infinite Family-from anywhere-and prepare African teens for success in school, work & life. ๐Ÿ’ป

Infinite Family motivates Black South African teens to overcome apartheid-era barriers and transform their lives by creating their own life-changing opportunities thru choices, actions and hard work during high school. Exceeding expectations, since 2013 more than 96% of our video mentored 12th grade students are among 'first in family' to attain college, then jobs not previously available to their

parents. Our volunteer Video Mentors fill the void as "one supportive adult" that guide Africa's teens to build resilience while transforming toxic stress into life-long coping strength. Our legacy is resilient, resourceful, responsible and self-reliant Black South African adults - join us and share their success!

Resilience. Resourcefulness. Responsibility. ๐ŸŒŸ These aren't just words to us at Infinite Family โ€” they're the traits our teens strengthen through years of consistent, one-on-one mentorship, and they're the traits that carry them through school, work, and life long after they age out of our program.

Net Blazer Lesedi just showed us exactly what that looks like. In her latest update, she shared that she aced all of her modules this semester, earning distinctions in both her English and Psychology exams. She missed a distinction in Research Psychology by just 2% โ€” but instead of accepting that outcome, she advocated for herself and applied for a remark. The result? She had actually earned a distinction all along, meaning she ended the semester with distinctions across every single subject.

In her own words: "It was a very challenging semester, but I made sure that I pulled up my socks and studied hard to make Angie (her mentor) proud since I promised her in January that I would come back with distinctions and make her proud."

We are so proud of the resilient, resourceful, and responsible young woman Lesedi continues to become. GO LESEDI!! ๐Ÿ’ซ

It's smiles all around from our teens this winter! โ„๏ธโค๏ธ Thanks to the generosity of our incredible community of donors, every one of our Net Buddies has a brand-new hooded sweater to keep them warm this season โ€” and this year's colour is red, the colour of warmth, courage, and love.

One of our Net Buddies wanted to share this note with all of you:
"As I wrapped myself in the soft, red hooded sweater you gave me, I felt a warmth that went far beyond the fabric. It was the warmth of knowing someone as kind and thoughtful as you was thinking of me โ€” a reminder that I'm seen, loved, and appreciated, and a symbol of the brightness and joy you bring to my life. Thank you for being a ray of sunshine in my world."

Thank you all for your compassion and your unwavering commitment to lifting others. Together, you are, quite literally, a ray of sunshine in someone's world. ๐ŸŒž

๐Ÿ’Œ Share this post to spread the warmth even further!

Since 2009, Infinite Family has had the joy of welcoming a group of graduate students from Graduate School of Education to our Nkosiโ€™s Haven Village site for their annual summer South African Initiative (SAI). This year was no exception! โœจ

The Rutgers group arrived with so much curiosity, warmth, and open hearts, eager to soak up every moment with our teens and their moms at NHV. There were heartfelt conversations, joyful performances from our teens, and lessons exchanged in both directions. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ“š

There's something truly special about watching our teens engage with brilliant, generous minds who take the time to answer their questions and share advice about careers and life. It's the kind of moment that reminds us why this work matters so much. ๐Ÿ’

Our Net Buddies ended their winter break with a BANG! ๐ŸŽ‰ A heartfelt thank you to Rutgers Graduate School of Education and to Dr. Darren Clark, who has led every visit since the beginning, for stopping by once again. We are already counting down the days until we see you next year. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Nolusindiso "Mom Sindi" Mafilika is a single mother and a Trade hand whose child joined Infinite Family's Khayelitsha Program. Watching her own child grow, she began referring other teens in her neighbourhood โ€” and made sure they actually showed up for their weekly video calls with mentors.

When one neighbour's son kept skipping his sessions because his grandparents didn't understand their importance, Mom Sindi started checking in on him personally. He became consistent โ€” his focus, confidence, and schoolwork all improved.

She now sees this as an ongoing community responsibility. Her message to other parents: small acts โ€” sharing information, reminding a child of their commitment โ€” add up to stronger communities and brighter futures. ๐Ÿ’›

Parents and guardians like Mom Sindi are often the invisible reason our teens show up to meet their mentors. When a teen grows, their whole family feels it. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒŸ Net Blazer Update: Ndiphiwe's Journey Continues ๐ŸŒŸ

Ndiphiwe didn't get into university to study medicine after matric โ€” but he hasn't given up on his dream. He's simply adjusted the timeline.

This year, instead of university, he's studying COMP Tech at the College of Cape Town, a pathway toward a Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) diploma, while rewriting maths and physics in November to strengthen his marks.

He leaned on his mom, his Video Mentor Danny, and bhuti (brother) Zinzo to think through his options. Zinzo even showed him an alternate route to The University of Cape Town (UCT) โ€” through work experience and an employer recommendation letter.

What makes his story stand out? Even after finishing matric, Ndiphiwe has kept showing up to his weekly video conversations with his mentor at the LaunchPad โ€” something rare among our teens who complete the program. He credits the ongoing value of mentorship and belonging for why he stays connected.

His journey reflects Infinite Family's 3 Rs: resilience in not letting a disappointing result derail his goal, resourcefulness in piecing together a new path forward with input from the people around him, and responsibility in owning his part in the setback while continuing to invest in his own growth.

Setback years can become setup years โ€” not through one big turnaround, but through consistent, ordinary choices to keep showing up. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

A transformer explosion has left the Alexandra community, including our Realogile LaunchPad, without power from the 23rd of June.๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

For our teens, aka Net Buddies and Video Mentors, that means interrupted weekly video conversations ๐Ÿ’ป and fewer chances to use the LaunchPad for homework and studying.
For families in Alex, it means so much more โ€” darker streets and more reported robberies ๐Ÿšจ, no heaters in the winter chill โ„๏ธ, no refrigeration for fresh food ๐Ÿฅถ, and hazardous open fires and gas stoves just to cook a meal.

To even be considered for a new transformer, residents are being asked to pay R200 (~$12.50) they can barely spare. And there's no telling how long the fix will take. โณ

But here's what won't stop: our commitment to our teens. ๐ŸŒŸ Right now, they're staying connected through VoIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol), and we're exploring long-term solutions like solar panels โ˜€๏ธ so LaunchPads like Realogile don't stay vulnerable to outages like this one. ๐Ÿ’ซ

Regular, reliable support helps us respond to crises like this โ€” whatever it takes. ๐Ÿ’

What I learnt in the past month is, โ€œif your dreams aren't big enough to an extent that they scare you and at some point, they seem too hard to reach, then you haven't dreamt."โ€” a quote widely known by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. ๐ŸŒŸ

That's how our Net Buddy Dangi opens his latest EZ Net blog, "Nothing Beats Perseverance." In it, he reminds us that no matter how hard the journey feels, perseverance makes it smoother and more attainable. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฟ

Words like these are exactly why mentoring matters. Every week, our Video Mentors show up on screen for our teens โ€” not just to talk, but to listen, encourage, and walk alongside them as they chase big dreams.

Meet Lesego โ€” a bright, bubbly teen from Alexandra Township who's waiting to be matched with his Video Mentor. ๐Ÿ’ซ He's in grade 10, focused on Maths and Science, and already loves how supported he feels at Infinite Family. "I've learned how kind the staff is, and I can be myself as an extrovert without being judged or told that I'm too loud," he shared. He also loves having free data and computers at the LaunchPad to do research for school and beyond.

Lesego is hoping for a mentor who can relate to his life, help him plan his diary (aka calendar), and match his bubbly energy. He wants someone to talk to about his day, his choices, and his future โ€” someone to teach him to manage his time and stress, both at school and at home.

Teens like Lesego are ready and waiting. All it takes is 30 minutes a week to become someone's Video Mentor and help shape their future. ๐ŸŒโœจ

โ€œI wish for my son to go further with his education. Infinite Family supports him. His communication skills have improved since he was matched with a mentor, and he is working hard at school. I am so grateful for the Infinite Family program because it helps him stay away from bad stuff like drugs.โ€
