FreeMe Free You Outreach projects are designed to engage with and educate school children, educators, communities and individuals on the value of protecting and preserving biodiversity, ecosystems, wildlife and natural habitats, using the ‘One Health’ approach. 'One Health' is the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to attain optimal health for peopl
e, animals and the environment. Together, the three make up the ‘One Health’ triad, and the health of each is inextricably connected to the others in the triad. The primary focus for the projects is the youth in both urban and rural areas. Educational work being done includes, but is not restricted to, Kid’s Clubs, Schools and Environmental Groups. An extensive group of environmental educators (specialists in their respective fields) have lent their time and expertise to training and teaching not only the children involved in the outreach, but also the educators who have shown an interest, by empowering them through engaging educational material and support to run their own projects at their schools. The education happens through talks, presentations, workbooks, worksheets and fun activities. Although the primary medium for educational materials and presentations is in English, a concerted effort is being made to translate as much as possible to isiZulu, and both English and isiZulu educators are available to work in either medium at schools.
