Youth Day Celebration and Youth Expo in Kleinmond

Overstrand APD proudly participated in the Youth Day celebration and Youth Expo held in Kleinmond, bringing together young people from across the Overstrand region to commemorate the significance of Youth Day and celebrate the potential of South Africa's youth.

The event was attended by the Mayor of the Overstrand Municipality as well as the Minister of Department of Social Development, who engaged with young people and highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, education, inclusion, and community development.

The Youth Expo provided a valuable platform for young people to access information about education, skills development, employment opportunities, health services, and community programmes aimed at supporting their future growth and success.

A special highlight of the day was the active participation of youth with disabilities. Overstrand APD is committed to ensuring that young persons with disabilities are included in all aspects of community life and are given equal opportunities to develop their talents, build confidence, and contribute meaningfully to society. Through their participation in the Youth Day activities, our disability youth demonstrated their abilities, resilience, and enthusiasm while engaging with peers, community leaders, and service providers.

Youth Day serves as a reminder of the role young people have played in shaping South Africa's history and the responsibility we all share in creating an inclusive future. By participating in events such as the Youth Expo, our youth with disabilities are empowered to raise their voices, pursue their aspirations, and become active members of their communities.

Overstrand APD remains dedicated to promoting inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunities for all young people, ensuring that no one is left behind as we build stronger and more inclusive communities throughout the Overstrand region.

Today, Ms. Noksie Booi, Social Worker at Overstrand APD, visited our Kleinmond Special Daycare Centre to facilitate an important Child Protection awareness session.

The topic, Body Safety Your Body Belongs to You, focused on helping children understand personal boundaries, body autonomy, and their right to feel safe. Children were taught that their bodies belong to them and that no one should touch their private parts except in situations related to their health, hygiene, or safety, such as a medical examination with a parent or caregiver present, or when assistance with personal care is needed.

At Overstrand APD, we are committed to creating safe, supportive environments where children can learn, grow, and develop the confidence to speak up when something does not feel right. Child protection remains a vital part of our work, and we are grateful for opportunities to educate and empower the children in our care.

Child protection activities, awareness about the importance of keeping children safe, supported, and protected. The activity encouraged children to learn about their rights, personal safety, and the importance of speaking up when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Through educational games, discussions, storytelling, and creative activities, the children were taught valuable lessons about respect, kindness, and protecting themselves and others from harm. The program also promoted positive relationships, confidence, and emotional well-being in a safe and caring environment.

Bright Star Adult Daycare remains committed to supporting the well-being and development of children by creating opportunities that educate, empower, and protect them.

Ovestrand Apd host regular Fitness Health wellness program to the community, with many of the beneficiaries being elderly residents from Hawston. These programs provide not only physical and emotional support, but also an important opportunity for social interaction, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness among participants.

We kindly appeal for donations of coffee, tea, milk, sugar, and biscuits to support these gatherings. Contributions of wool would also be greatly appreciated for special activities and projects.

Any assistance, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. For more information or to offer support, please contact:
