INCIDENT REPORT: TREE OBSTRUCTION – SCHOEMANSVILLE

On the morning of Sunday, 4 January 2026, at 09:49, CERT received a message via our 911 WhatsApp Response Group requesting assistance after a large tree had fallen across Van Velden Street, Schoemansville.

CERT Emergency Support Responders were immediately dispatched. Eight (8) trained team members responded with the necessary equipment. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the entire roadway was blocked, and Telkom and electrical lines were at risk.

For public safety, the scene was immediately cordoned off, and the road was closed to all traffic. Madibeng Fire Department was notified of the situation without delay. While awaiting their arrival, the CERT team began carefully managing and clearing the affected electrical lines in a controlled manner to reduce risk.

Madibeng Fire Department arrived on scene and assisted with the final clearing of the roadway. The incident was successfully resolved, and the scene was declared safe at 11:10, after which normal traffic flow resumed.

⚠️ Public Safety Notice:
We would like to remind all residents that fallen trees in contact with electrical wires can conduct electrical current and pose a serious danger. Members of the public are urged to stay clear of such scenes and allow qualified personnel to manage and clear the hazard.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Madibeng Fire Department for their quick response, professionalism, and dedication, as well as to our CERT Hartbeespoort volunteers for their effective teamwork and commitment to community safety. Thanks also to Councellor Gullaume Clouston for arranging removal of the branches.

🚨INCIDENT REPORT🚨

VEHICLE ACCIDENT: HENNOPS RIVER

On Saturday, 3 January, at approximately 20:45, a report was received on our emergency WhatsApp group of a vehicle that had allegedly fallen into the Hennops River. The CERT Emergency Team was immediately dispatched.

The team arrived on scene at 21:06 and conducted a rapid scene assessment. The vehicle was located in the bushes next to the river and, fortunately, had not entered the river itself.

One male patient was found standing next to the roadway. He sustained minor injuries to his right leg and was in a stable condition. The patient indicated that he felt well and declined ambulance transport. As a precautionary measure, he was transported by his family to Brits Hospital for further medical evaluation to rule out any complications.

Initial findings indicate that the vehicle struck standing water on the Hennops River bridge, which had not drained due to the severe weather conditions. The driver lost control, broke through the barrier, and came to rest in the ditch alongside the road.

Given the extremely poor weather conditions, the CERT team focused on:

🚔Securing the scene

🚔Ensuring the safety of the patients

🚔Managing traffic and protecting other road users

❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌
The road was temporarily closed for approximately 25 minutes to allow Eagle Towing to safely recover the vehicle. The scene was fully cleared at 22:45.

⚠️ ROAD SAFETY WARNING!
We urgently remind all road users that low-lying bridges do not drain effectively, resulting in deep pools of standing water. When a vehicle hits such water at speed, it can become airborne and lose control.

Please take note:

⚡Slow down in heavy rain

⚡Switch on your hazard lights

⚡Proceed with extreme caution

⚡If water is flowing over a bridge, do not attempt to cross until it is declared safe

Please drive responsibly and adjust your speed according to weather and road conditions.

Sincere thanks to all CERT Hartbeespoort volunteers who responded without hesitation and managed the scene with extreme professionalism.

🚨CERT Responds to Reported Explosion🚨

Earlier this evening, 8:05 PM, CERT received reports on our emergency WhatsApp group of a suspected explosion in the Schoemansville area.

Our dedicated volunteers didn't hesitate as the fire crews mobilized immediately, arriving on the scene with our fire fighter.

8 CERT volunteers were on site within minutes. Upon investigation, the "explosion" was identified as several canisters that had been thrown into a rubbish heap and set alight.

Thankfully, due to the recent rainfall, the fire was naturally contained and did not pose a further risk. Our team monitored the area to ensure it was completely safe before clearing the scene.

A Quick Safety Reminder
While this incident ended safely, please remember that pressurized canisters (like deodorants or spray paint) are extremely dangerous when exposed to heat. They can become unpredictable projectiles and cause serious injury. Please dispose of hazardous materials responsibly!

The illegal dumping in sector 2 poses a huge fire risk. Please report any illegal dumping to a CERT admin on our WhatsApp group.
