Elevator Ground Condemns Senseless GBV Killing in Gugulethu, Calls for Swift Justice
Gugulethu, 15 July 2025 โ The Elevator Ground organization is heartbroken and outraged by the tragic passing of Unam Ayesha Mamfanya, a bright and smiling young lady from Gugulethu, who reportedly lost her life at the hands of an abusive boyfriend.
Our deepest condolences go out to Unam's family, friends, and the entire Gugulethu community during this incredibly difficult time.
As our nation rapidly approaches Women's Month, this devastating incident serves as a stark and painful reminder of the pervasive pandemic of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) that continues to plague South Africa.
It is an urgent call to action for our government, particularly the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the justice system, to ensure that all individuals arrested for GBV are swiftly processed, held accountable, and face appropriate time in prison.
It is unacceptable that in a democratic country like South Africa, women live in daily fear for their lives, often at the hands of those who claim to love them. We implore every citizen to stand together, united in the fight against this societal scourge.
Silence is complicity, and we must collectively challenge the norms that perpetuate violence against women and children.
As Elevator Ground, an organization dedicated to addressing the critical issues affecting both girl and boy children, and a strong advocate against GBV, we demand immediate and decisive action.
We specifically call on law enforcement agencies to speed up the arrest of the perpetrator(s) responsible for Unam Ayesha Mamfanya's death, to ensure that justice is served without delay.
