🌳🎉 SAFE, CLEAN SPACES FOR CHILDREN INITIATIVE 🎉🌳
Working Together to Create Safe, Clean, and Child-Friendly Spaces for Every Child
On 9 June 2026, the Makhanda Children's Rights Coalition (MCRC) successfully hosted the Safe, Clean Spaces for Children Initiative at the Curry Street Play Park in Makhanda.
The initiative was led by MCRC Coordinator Olwethu Kota, who approached Carara Agro Processing to partner in improving the recreational space for children. Guided by Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which recognizes every child's right to rest, leisure, play, and recreational activities, Carara Agro Processing responded positively and played a key role in ensuring that the play park was cleaned and made safe for children.
The SEF Social Employment Fund also partnered with the initiative, working alongside community stakeholders to create a clean, healthy, and welcoming environment where children can exercise their right to play and recreation safely.
Public parks and recreational facilities are essential for children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Through this collaborative effort, partners demonstrated that creating and maintaining child-friendly spaces is a shared responsibility that requires active community participation and collective action.
The children from the surrounding community were excited and appreciative of the newly cleaned recreational space. Their smiles and enthusiasm highlighted the importance of investing in safe and healthy environments where children can learn, play, socialize, and thrive.
MCRC extends its sincere appreciation to Carara Agro Processing, SEF Social Employment Fund, Birches, community members, and all stakeholders who contributed to making this initiative a success.
Together, we are building a future where every child has access to safe, clean, and nurturing spaces to play, grow, and reach their full potential.
