Our hearts are completely full…..every time we rewatch snaps from the audience.
It’s a real pinch-me moment for the team.
We officially started TEDxGeorge three years ago and, honestly, it hasn’t always been easy behind the scenes.
Starting something new takes time.
It takes patience, persistence and a lot of belief in something before you can really see what it might become.
We’d witnessed the impact TEDx events were having in other regions around the world 🌎 and naturally wanted to bring that to a place we ❤️ - a region we believe has so much potential, so many brilliant people and ideas worth sharing.
But the journey can have its highs and lows….
- We are a non-profit, 100% volunteer-organised initiative.
- There are no big teams working behind the scenes
- No starting budget
- It’s people giving their time, skills and energy because they believe this is something worth building.
And then came this year’s event. WOW! 😮
While the team was in event mode…..there were moments throughout the day when we’d stop, look around and almost couldn’t believe what was happening.
We’d more than DOUBLED the number of guests since our first two events
People had travelled from across the Garden Route, Cape Town, Johannesburg and beyond to be in that room.
Local speakers were sharing the stage alongside voices from across South Africa.
Businesses, creatives, communities and individuals from across the region had come together to make the day happen
And then we’d look out at the audience...
People listening.
Laughing.
Crying.
Questioning.
Connecting.
Three years in, we’re still learning. We’re still figuring things out - so thank you everyone for showing up and being SO SUPPORRTIVE!
