Culture and community truly remain at the heart of our identity! The commencement of Day 1 at the Masivuke Heritage Tournament marks a powerful continuation of unity, pride, and youth empowerment.
The tournament does far more than showcase local athletic talent; it leverages the power of sports to address vital social themes:Preserving Culture & Identity: Bringing families together in vibrant traditional attire to honor roots and shared history.Youth Upliftment: Keeping young people engaged in healthy activities, steering them away from substance abuse, and creating pathways to professional sports.Social Advocacy: Integrating critical community awareness campaigns, specifically standing firmly against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).The energy from Day 1 sets an incredible tone for the rest of the weekend's celebrations.

Celebrating heritage through sport development unites South African communities while building a powerful, active front against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

Sport and culture are the heartbeat of our communities, but they cannot thrive if our homes and fields are plagued by violence. Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) destroy the very fabric of our society, violating the core African principle of Ubuntu, the belief that our humanity is bound up in the humanity of others. As we celebrate our rich heritage, we must use the power of sport and culture to build a safer, more respectful South Africa.

🟣 THE F STANDS FOR FEMICIDE.

We are shattered. Our hearts break for the women whose lives were brutally cut short.

This is not just "crime". This is FEMICIDE — the intentional killing of a woman because she is a woman.

Right now our country is bleeding. Just this week, 8 women were found murdered around Kempton Park, but women are still not safe to walk, run, or live freely.
We cannot keep counting bodies, saying RIP, and moving on.
We must name it. We must stop it.
We will not be silent.
Masivuke Community Development says STOP ABUSING US. STOP KILLING US.
Speak Out. Take Action. Support Survivors.

We were honoured to welcome GRIT for a visit and an important conversation about Zuzi, the supportive chatbot that helps people with gender-based violence, rights, relationships, safety, and their bodies. It was a powerful reminder that information and support can help people feel seen, heard, and empowered.
