Another amazing Meerkats Mob Day in KZN! Our taxi journey around South Africa was a tremendous success. Well done to all our tour guides, taxi drivers and passengers 🏆💪

Meerkat Scouts are aged 5 and 6 years old and our programs are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage teamwork. Through fun, hands-on activities like crafts, games, and nature walks, our Meerkats learn essential life skills while having a great time at our weekly meetings. It’s the perfect way to start a lifelong journey of adventure, friendship, and positive values. So contact the Den nearest you to arrange a visit.

Our meerkats have been working on their community badge. One of the tasks is to write a card for someone who doesn't usually get thanked. They mentioned security guards when we asked them who they could think of so we chose to invite a DSS security guard to come in. The meerkats were so excited to share their cards and handmade flowers and pots with him, they kept asking when he would arrive. They hid near the door, gave him a big welcome when he got there, and they said thank you with big smiles and hugs.

Happy Mother's Day to all Scouting moms!

Your support keeps the children moving forward. All those sleepless nights may not always be seen, but we acknowledge the role you play in the success of the young Scouts.

Thank you!

Long live the spirit of Baden Powell ❤️

Congratulations to everyone who won awards yesterday!
All of the kids had a fun day of activities and making new friends with children from all over the region.

And of course Apollo, the 58th Air scouts mascot made an appearance. He is already so loved by everyone!

Since Robert Baden-Powell passed away in 1941, he is no longer able to give a message for Founder's Day in 2025.

However, his legacy and the values he instilled in the Scout Movement continue to resonate today.

If Baden-Powell were to send a message (with the help of AI), it might emphasize the following key points, inspired by his writings and ideals:

Founder’s Day Message from Robert Baden-Powell – 2025

_“The world of today needs Scouts more than ever. As we mark another year of Scouting, let us remember the core values that have guided our Movement since its inception: Duty to God, Duty to Others, and Duty to Self. These ideals are timeless and are a beacon of light for those who seek to make the world a better place._

_As Scouts, we are challenged not only to build strength in ourselves but to show kindness, patience, and understanding to those around us. In a world that often seems divided, the Scout Promise continues to bring us together, united in our shared goal of creating a better, fairer, and more peaceful world._

_On this Founder's Day, I urge each one of you to take the principles of Scouting and carry them into every corner of your lives. Whether you are lighting a fire on a camping trip or standing up for justice in your community, remember that each small action can create ripples of change. Be the best Scout you can be, and inspire others to do the same. The adventure of life is just beginning for each of us – let us move forward with courage and kindness, making a difference wherever we can.”_

_Yours in Scouting,_

Robert Baden-Powell (AI)

The 58th Durban Air Scout group recently had our AGM and prizegiving for 2024.
It has been an eventful year, with many changes - people leaving, but also new people starting, both group members as well as scouters.
Our honour wall is finally coming together, where we can admire the names of all the people who worked so hard!
So many achievements have been attained. We are proud of every single one of you!
The list was long, so pictures speak 1000 words instead.
Here is our meeting summed up in a few minutes. Thank you to all the scouters who put the prizegiving together. It was beautifully presented.
Let's look forward to another year of success, growth, happiness, and most importantly, family.
Yours in Scouting,
from the 58th Durban Air Scouts Family

Share Your Story:

We are in the process of updating our website and social media, and would like to ask everyone to share success stories about children / rovers / maybe even volunteers who have been in the 58th group.

How have your children / you become a better person since being a scout? What story can you share about how you have been involved in scouting? We would like to share the stories on our website and social media so other can see the value Scouts has, by reading real stories and improvements people have experienced.

Let us know if you have any questions! Pictures would be lovely too, so that we can share them with your story.

Can't wait to read all of them!

World Teacher's Day:

On the 5th of October is the annual World Teacher's Day. Today we celebrate teachers around the world.

Teachers are passionate about uplifting and developing youth, and many successful people today can point out that one teacher in their who made the difference.

Our Scouters are the key to the success of the programs which are run. Without them, there would be no Scouts!

Thank you to all of our Scouters who dedicate their time to creating and running our 58th Durban Air Scouts group, and making an impact on the hearts of each individual.

In South Africa, through the spirit of Ubuntu, we say "Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu". Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It is often described as reminding us that 'I am what I am because of who we all are'.

Teachers, we thank you!

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Leaping Wolf Roll Call for 58th Durban Air Scouts:

We are busy creating our honour wall at the 58th Durban Air Scout group, and we need your help!

If you have achieved leaping wolf with the group in all the years the group has existed, or know of a family member or friend who did, please send us the name, surname and year it was achieved so we can put your name up! Unfortunately records were never kept previously, so we need to try get the names by word of mouth. Please spread the word as we would really like to give the recognition to those who deserve their place on our honour wall!

I hope we can get as many names up as possible! You can send us a message with the name, surname and year via our social media channels, or e-mail Greg on [email protected]
