🌱 Growing People, Not Just Food
Since 2024, Imbewu Yoshintso has been proud to serve as a supervisor for YES Youth through Wildlands Conservation Trust — and what a journey it's been.
At Rivier Uitsig, a regenerative farm nestled in Tatsfield, Howick, our YES Youth aren't just learning about agriculture — they're becoming skilled, confident young workers.
Here's where we've come:
📌 2024 — 10 YES Youth completed the programme. All 10 were employed afterwards.
📌 2025 — 5 YES Youth came through. 1 secured employment.
📌 2026 — 4 YES Youth currently in programme and thriving.
These young people are gaining real, hands-on experience in:
🥬 Planting & weeding
📦 Pack house operations — packing, labelling, sorting
🌿 How a working organic farm operates day to day
Rivier Uitsig supplies fresh produce to catering companies, restaurants, and retailers — and our YES Youth are part of making that happen.
This is what food security looks like at ground level. Real skills. Real work. Real futures.
We're proud of every single one of them. 💚

Imbewu had a visit from the founder of Stichting Roots Up, Olivier Van Walsem, who came through from the 21st to the 24th of April with his wife and son from the Netherlands.
This is his first visit since the tunnel was constructed.
We gave them a tour of the creche gardens and a special visit to Speakman Creche.

this was a good opportunity for the new Future Farmers Foundation interns to meet our partner.

Imbewu Yoshintso received an invitation to attend the Future
Farmers' day in the Meander Hall at Lions River on the 17th of March 2023.
The purpose of this event was to share and encourage a positive attitude, respect, and a better understanding of the goals set out by the Future Farmers Foundation
new and old Future Farmer members attended the event together with Zimisele Luthuli, Siyabonga Ngcobo, Junior Mlandu, and Two of our future farmer interns( Msizi Ndlovu and Charity Kubayi). A few overseas members came to share their stories and valuable experience abroad.

To of our Imbewu members received an award for their exceptional work and dedication to the farms.
Siyabonga Ngcobo from Imbewu Yoshintso accepted a gold award certificate and won a jaket. Junior Mlandu received a Brozwe award certificate.
We would like to congratulate and thank our team members for taking part in this program and bringing their best out to share.

Plans are being put forward by collaborating and partnering with ZCT to extend our reach together with the communities on the immediate border of the Manyoni Private Game Reserve in Mandlakazi Northern KZN.

Plans are being put forward by collaborating and partnering with ZCT to extend our reach together with the communities on the immediate border of the Manyoni Private Game Reserve in Mandlakazi Northern KZN.

We are endeavoring to support these creches by growing more food gardens to provide fresh produce for the children and teachers.
Imbewu will also assist ZCT in various other programs such as providing food from the gardens for youth camps educational talks, community engagement, and planting trees at schools.
we are currently preparing our proposals to begin working on these projects this year.

Our Imbewu team is growing!
On 1 March 2023, we were pleased to introduce two interns who joined us at Imbewu Yoshintso.
Thabiso Hlongwane from Melmoth, a Diploma in farm management, and Nombulelo Mthembu from Jozini, a national diploma in tourism, approached us through their initiative and enthusiasm to work in the field of regenerative agriculture. This opportunity is possible with funding for a student stipend, generously provided by Zululand Conservation Trust .

The Mzamoyethu water pipeline repair and installation:

Mzamoyethu Creche is situated at a slightly higher elevation. Due to a pressure drop in the municipal pipeline, the municipal water supply cannot reach that part of the community, including the creche. Even though Imbewu has installed three large rainwater harvesting tanks at the creche, this is not enough to supply all their water and irrigation needs year-round.

In March 2021, Imbewu installed a solar pump, a 400-meter pipeline, and a tank lower down the hill where the municipal pressure is still strong enough to fill a tank. But unfortunately, the pipeline sprung many leaks and needed a complete excavation and replacement.

In the month of February 2023, Imbewu received funding and support from Zululand Conservation Trust (ZCT) to make the necessary repair. They also provided a TLB and driver, which made short work of the digging. African Conservation Trust (ACT) provided the labor, and the new pipe installation has been completed.

After a week the water line is still working perfectly. Big thanks to Zululand Conservation Trust , and African Conservation Trust (ACT) for their support.

Yesterday we enjoyed a visit from Anne Proctor and Jean Toucher of Ghost Mountain Inn, a privately owned lodge and spa located in the foothills of the Ghost Mountain in Mkuze, northern KwaZulu Natal.
We gave them a tour of our market garden, nursery and community food gardens. They were impressed with the project and we discussed many collaborative ideas. We also look forward to supplying their restaruant with our organic produce, micro greens, and edible flowers.
