Good afternoon, community.
We would like to ask for assistance for Jackie De Gaye . As many of you know, Jackie is our local animal warrior, and her days are literally filled with helping animals in our community.
To give you some perspective on what Jackie’s day looks like: she feeds animals at 13 different locations every single day , places like the hospital, the varsity, warehouses, and other sites where colonies of cats rely on her. Within those locations are multiple feeding points. In fact, one location alone has 17 feeding stations and around 75 cats that depend on her.
So although Jackie visits 14 locations, each of those locations often has several feeding spots. As you can imagine, this means hundreds of cats are fed by Jackie every single day.
And it doesn’t stop there. Jackie also helps struggling dogs when she can. On top of the food costs, there is the petrol required to travel between all these areas, the wear and tear on her car and tyres, and the ongoing costs of trapping and sterilising to prevent kitten explosions and endless suffering.
Jackie is retired and lives one of the most frugal lives of anyone I know, simply to ensure that these animals are fed and safe.
Right now we are urgently appealing for help with cat food donations. Jackie has enough food to get through the weekend, but after that her reserves are completely dry.
If you are able to donate a bag of cat food, tins, or contribute financially towards food, it would make an enormous difference. Every little bit helps keep these animals from going hungry.
Please reach out if you would like to help. Your kindness truly makes a difference. 🐾💛
