We think you’ll agree that everything in life needs to be shown a little love, in order to grow the best results – this is true of people, projects, hope, community, friends & family, and it’s why we wanted to show our area all the love it deserves.

After during and before! What a transformation 💚

“Gardening is never something you ‘arrive’ at — there’s no final destination. Just when you think everything looks perfect, plants lose their vigour, weeds creep in, and some species start to dominate others. And in the case of our SWAPO Road flower beds… pedestrians (and even the odd car!) take shortcuts through them.

The bed in front of the church was in a dire state, but this week the team gave it some much-needed love. Around 80% of the bed was replanted. The Dietes will hopefully help block foot traffic, and new plants have been added for interest. Over time, the daisy bushes will bring extra colour and texture to the scheme.

We’re working hard to ensure our business district is not only safe and functional, but also beautiful and environmentally conscious.” 🌿💚

💚 Teamwork makes the dream work…

Last week our security team noticed a possible water leak while on their patrols. We reported this on the Ethekwini fault system. Within a few days their team was on site to fix it! This is a great example on how our community works together with the Municipality to keep our community great!

Do you know how to report issues or log a fault?

We at Heart of Durban North would like to extend our sincere thanks to spearheaded by Lufefe for their continued partnership and unwavering commitment to keeping our neighbourhood safe.
From regular patrols through our streets to their visible presence during the early morning hours, Marshall has gone above and beyond — including looking out for the safety of our morning running groups and responding promptly to any concerns raised by residents and businesses.
Thank you, Marshall Security, for being a reliable part of Durban North’s safety network. 👏🚓💛

Flora Friday on the 💚 Of Durban North

🌿 Karomia speciosa: A Hidden Jewel in the Heart of Durban North 🌿
Tucked away in the quiet corners and green pockets of Durban North, one might stumble upon a lesser-known botanical treasure — the Karomia speciosa. Indigenous to Southern Africa, this strikingly beautiful shrub is a rare sight in urban areas, making its presence here all the more special.
Also known as the Bell Bush, Karomia speciosa is part of the Lamiaceae (mint) family. It’s admired for its spectacular, papery bell-shaped flowers, which range in color from soft purples to vibrant blues and sometimes even pinkish hues. These blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, playing a quiet but crucial role in supporting urban biodiversity.

🌱 Whether you’re a gardener, nature lover, or just someone who enjoys a walk among indigenous flora, keep an eye out for the Karomia. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in developed suburbs, nature still holds ground — if we let it.
