This past week has seen Mandy in Rome, invited by a collaboration between World Vision, Harvard and other universities, to share at the conference: Fostering Hope for Children, Global Summit 2026 being held in the Vatican City.
We are so excited to be included with thought leaders, as together we explore how to grow tangible hope in vulnerable children.

Child Protection Week is a time to shine a light on the challenges facing vulnerable children, and all children - and the collective responsibility we all share to protect them.
And whilst child protection week shines a light for 7 days, we know that child protection needs to be prioritised every day of the year. Not only by authorities, but by every single adult in society.
Because protecting children is everyone’s business.

For a child waiting for safety and justice, every day matters.
Delays in decisions, services, and support can leave children vulnerable when they need protection most.
Each day they wait, is a roadblock to their healing and recovery. Delays in child justice can prolong their trauma.
Child protection cannot wait.

This Child Protection Week, let’s work towards faster, stronger, child-centred responses that put children’s wellbeing first. Let us as adults not settle for delays and postponements. Let us show children that they matter and deserve being prioritised. That they are worth fighting for.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” 🌱✨

Last week, our learners got the chance to share their dreams, future careers, and the kind of impact they hope to make in the world. From teachers to doctors, police officers to entrepreneurs, every answer carried a glimpse of possibility and purpose. 💭

Our young innovators recently took part in the Eskom Expo District Competition, where they presented their research project plans to a panel of judges. 💡✨

The competition gave learners the opportunity to showcase their creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, while also receiving valuable feedback to help prepare them for the Regional Competition.

The confidence, effort and curiosity shown by each learner is a prime example of being a courageous agent of change.🚀📚

Today marks the start of Child Protection Week in South Africa. 💛

This year, we are shining a light on a painful reality too many children face: justice delayed is child protection denied.

For thousands of child survivors of abuse and violence, the trauma does not end when the crime is reported. Court delays, repeated postponements and years spent waiting for cases to be finalised force children to relive their pain over and over again.

At the ReStory Foundation, we see first-hand how prolonged legal processes deepen emotional wounds and delay healing for vulnerable children already impacted by abuse, neglect and violence.

Children deserve more than awareness campaigns. They deserve a justice system that responds with urgency, compassion and accountability.

As we observe Child Protection Week 2026, we call on communities across South Africa to stand with child survivors, support affected families and demand a system that protects children without delay.

Because childhood cannot be paused while waiting for justice.

Delays in the justice system have become “a second form of trauma” for vulnerable children, according to Natalie Naude, Empowerment Manager at the Foundation.
