Paulette was a giver, never a taker.
She had a beautiful way of caring for others, often stopping in the middle of a phone call to say a prayer for someone who needed it. β€οΈβπ©Ή
No matter how difficult things were on her side, she would always try to make a plan and help where she could. Even when she had very little, she shared what she had without hesitation.
She was always well put together beautiful, intelligent, strong-willed, and strict when she needed to be but beneath that was an incredibly kind and generous heart. β€οΈβπ©Ή
Paulette touched many lives with her compassion, faith, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
As she enters Heaven, we hope she is welcomed with open arms and greeted by all her beloved four-legged friends who crossed the rainbow bridge before her. May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love she gave so freely throughout her life. β€οΈπΎ
Paulettes family is in our thoughts and prayers β€οΈβπ©Ή
It is with deep sadness and a sense of disbelief that we announce the sudden passing of Paulette Bousfield on 2 June 2026. As the founder and life-force of PlumPets Animal Shelter, Paulette became widely known in the local community as a champion for the abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs of the local surrounding areas.
Paulette will be deeply missed by her husband of 23 years, Dr Duncan Stevens, the staff at the shelter and Plumstead Animal Hospital, the many PlumPets volunteers, the animal rescue community and all her precious furchildren.
Paulette founded the shelter in 2006 in response to a huge need in the local community to help abandoned dogs and cats in the area. Since opening the shelter 20 years ago, Paulette and Duncan have sacrificed their time, energy and finances to keep the shelter running. Paulette selflessly dedicated her whole life to caring for these animals. She has rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed countless cats and dogs over this time, tirelessly seeking the second chance she believed every animal deserves. She was always prepared to help other individual rescuers and organisations in any way she could, working tirelessly behind the scenes, she was always willing to "make a plan". She had a huge heart for the plight of unwanted and abused animals.
Animal rescue was her calling and she chose to serve God and her community in this way π
We appreciate the support and love of our PlumPets Community at this difficult time and will continue to ask for your prayers, support and assistance in the weeks and months ahead as we process this loss and find a way forward. Paulette was the one person who was at the shelter 24/7, 7 days a week, so her passing has immediate implications for the running of the shelter. We are making plans for the animals immediate care. Since Paulette's recent foot operation, she has been running the shelter with extra staff to cover her many duties, so we will continue to need support to cover the cost of the extra staff and may also require extra volunteers. We will share further appeals on this page in the coming weeks.
We will also be URGENTLY seeking homes for the last of our dogs and the many adult cats in the shelter. We hope that the community she gave so much to, will help us honour her memory by opening their homes and hearts to Paulette's beloved animals πππ±πΆ
Thank you Paulette for your incredible sacrifice and dedication to all the animals - may you finally know peace and eternal rest with Jesus your beloved Lord and Saviour ποΈ
