https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/new-vehicle-for-tin-can-town We are Pro-Life and will never turn our backs on an animal in need. We support the medical care, rescue, and rehabilitation of neglected, abandoned and abused domestic animals in the poor township of Blikkiesdorp. Further to that we work closely with those who have domestic animals on

how to properly look after the animals in their care. We also focus on feeding the human residents in return for their cooperation in giving us access to their animals. We initially started the project from our own funds but very quickly realised how great the need is. Since then, we rely on family, friends and animal-lovers to help us in any which way they can. We are a registered non-profit welfare organisation, NPO number 150-893. If you would like to contribute and help us to continue this valuable work in improving the lives of these animals, our Paypal email address for donations is: [email protected]

Paulette was a giver, never a taker.
She had a beautiful way of caring for others, often stopping in the middle of a phone call to say a prayer for someone who needed it. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
No matter how difficult things were on her side, she would always try to make a plan and help where she could. Even when she had very little, she shared what she had without hesitation.
She was always well put together beautiful, intelligent, strong-willed, and strict when she needed to be but beneath that was an incredibly kind and generous heart. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
Paulette touched many lives with her compassion, faith, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
As she enters Heaven, we hope she is welcomed with open arms and greeted by all her beloved four-legged friends who crossed the rainbow bridge before her. May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love she gave so freely throughout her life. ❀️🐾
Paulettes family is in our thoughts and prayers β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

It is with deep sadness and a sense of disbelief that we announce the sudden passing of Paulette Bousfield on 2 June 2026. As the founder and life-force of PlumPets Animal Shelter, Paulette became widely known in the local community as a champion for the abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs of the local surrounding areas.

Paulette will be deeply missed by her husband of 23 years, Dr Duncan Stevens, the staff at the shelter and Plumstead Animal Hospital, the many PlumPets volunteers, the animal rescue community and all her precious furchildren.

Paulette founded the shelter in 2006 in response to a huge need in the local community to help abandoned dogs and cats in the area. Since opening the shelter 20 years ago, Paulette and Duncan have sacrificed their time, energy and finances to keep the shelter running. Paulette selflessly dedicated her whole life to caring for these animals. She has rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed countless cats and dogs over this time, tirelessly seeking the second chance she believed every animal deserves. She was always prepared to help other individual rescuers and organisations in any way she could, working tirelessly behind the scenes, she was always willing to "make a plan". She had a huge heart for the plight of unwanted and abused animals.

Animal rescue was her calling and she chose to serve God and her community in this way πŸ’œ

We appreciate the support and love of our PlumPets Community at this difficult time and will continue to ask for your prayers, support and assistance in the weeks and months ahead as we process this loss and find a way forward. Paulette was the one person who was at the shelter 24/7, 7 days a week, so her passing has immediate implications for the running of the shelter. We are making plans for the animals immediate care. Since Paulette's recent foot operation, she has been running the shelter with extra staff to cover her many duties, so we will continue to need support to cover the cost of the extra staff and may also require extra volunteers. We will share further appeals on this page in the coming weeks.

We will also be URGENTLY seeking homes for the last of our dogs and the many adult cats in the shelter. We hope that the community she gave so much to, will help us honour her memory by opening their homes and hearts to Paulette's beloved animals πŸ™πŸ’œπŸ±πŸΆ

Thank you Paulette for your incredible sacrifice and dedication to all the animals - may you finally know peace and eternal rest with Jesus your beloved Lord and Saviour πŸ•ŠοΈ

πŸ’›πŸΎ RESCUE REALITY CHECK πŸΎπŸ’›

Not every rescue story starts with abuse.
Sometimes it starts with poverty.
Sometimes it starts with someone trying their best with very little.

People often ask why we do not immediately confiscate every abused or neglected animal we come across. The answer is simple *without education, the cycle just repeats itself.*

If a dog or cat is removed from a home without understanding, compassion, or support, another animal will often take its place… and suffer the same fate all over again.

We believe education goes a long way. So does a little compassion for the underprivileged community we work in.
We try to look a little deeper.

We see the young child and his best friend ,the dog his parents did not want or care about, but whom he loves with his whole heart πŸΆπŸ’›

We see the struggling Ouma raising 6 grandchildren, who still found room in her heart to care for the dumped cat she found 🐱

We see the uncle who lost his job but still wants help getting his animals seen to and cared for 🐾

We see the exhausted mother of 5 children who still arrives with her 2 sick cats for treatment because their lives matter too 🧑

Sometimes people do not need judgment. Sometimes they need support, education, sterilisation assistance, food, kindness, and someone willing to listen.

Rescue is not always black and white.
Real rescue means helping both animals and people break the cycle together 🧑

πŸΆπŸ’› TOM SAWYER (aka Tom / Slim Shady) πŸ’›πŸΆ

From Shoprite packet… to sofa king.

This is Tom Sawyer, now 9 and a half years old. He arrived at Tin Can Town back in 2016 as a tiny, mangey, scrawny pup with barely any hair due to severe mange, wrapped in a Shoprite packet and fighting to survive. That’s where the nickname β€œSlim Shady” came from πŸ₯Ί

Back then, life was cold, uncomfortable, and uncertain. Tom absolutely hated the cold and he had no body fat and no warmth to protect him.

But look at him now…

Fast forward 10 years later (2016 β†’ 2026), and Tom has transformed into a healthy, happy boy who found his forever home and best friend in Muizenberg 🏑🐾
He now lives the life every rescue dog deserves: warm blankets, food, safety, love, and comfort every single day 🧣❀️

Today, he never has to be cold again… always wrapped in enough blankets to keep him cosy and safe πŸ’›πŸΆ

πŸ’› This is what rescue looks like.
And stories like Tom’s are only possible because of donations, support, and kindness from people like you.

Please keep helping us make more β€œbefore and afters” like this 🐾

πŸš—πŸ’› URGENT OUTREACH TRANSPORT APPEAL πŸ’›πŸš—

As many may know, Tin Can Town is currently without a vehicle, which makes our monthly outreach extremely difficult.

We are looking for a reliable person who may be able to lend us a bakkie or a large vehicle for our June outreach.

We completely understand that lending your vehicle to a β€œstranger” is a big ask, so we want to be very clear: you are more than welcome to come along with us on outreach if you prefer 🧑

We are not just asking for help , we are inviting you to see the impact first-hand.

πŸ“… Outreach date: 6 June
⏰ Time: 7am

If you are able to help or know someone who might be, please reach out 🐾

Please share this post to help us get the word out πŸ’›

We are reaching out to our community with heavy hearts, we are in need of a miracle. 🌟
Every month we travel out to the community of Blikkiesdorp and we feed every animal, we deworm and deflea every animal and we provide medical care where we can to injured animals. This is done through a few ways but the main ways include donations and our members own pockets.
Some of our members also look after animals that have been surrendered or found injured, this act of kindness comes with many vet bills and extra food and care costs. 🐢
Tin Can Town currently has R2014 in our bank account. We have vet bills from Plumstead Animal Hospital that we owe R9110, and this is just the tip of the ice berg costs wise. Other costs include food, medical supplies and transport to our outreaches. 😒

TIN CAN TOWN NEEDS YOUR HELP!!
If we cannot come up with the money we will not be able to continue our operations within Blikkiesdorp, this would be extremely heartbreaking and we are pleaing to our community for help.

Help can be done through donations (money, food, medical products) or sharing this post to help us reach a wider community. β™₯️
