We support the medical care, rescue, and rehabilitation of neglected, abandoned and abused domestic animals in the poor township of Blikkiesdorp. Further to that we work closely with those who have domestic animals on how to properly look after the animals in their care. We also focus on feeding the human residents in return for their cooperation in giving us access to their animals. We initially started the project from our own funds but very quickly realised how great the need is. Since then, we rely on family, friends and animal-lovers to help us in any which way they can. We are a registered non-profit welfare organisation, NPO number 150-893. A massive thank you to Purple Kennels for their generous donation of kennels to Tin Can Town. 💜

We sometimes hear, “But it’s not cold anymore,” or “It’s not raining, we don’t need a kennel.”

Yes, we do!

A kennel isn't just for winter. It provides a cool, shaded and safe place for a dog to escape the summer heat, rest and sleep , especially with the extreme temperatures we are expecting this summer. ☀️🐾

Shelter is needed all year round.

🐾 HELLO, TIN CAN TOWN FAMILY! 🐾

We have a new member… or 2… or 3… or 4… or 5 to introduce to you! ❤️

Meet Mommy Coco and her babies! 🐶

The reality is, when people can barely afford to feed themselves and their existing animals, they certainly cannot afford an avalanche of puppies. But when Mom is still the milk bar, the reality of having all those hungry mouths to feed doesn’t always hit home.

It is only when Mom stops producing milk and those little mouths start needing food that the reality sets in.

And that is when desperate people can end up making desperate choices. Puppies are handed over to anyone willing to take them, often without knowing where they will end up.

Some are neglected. Some are run over by cars. Some are subjected to cruelty, and little children can unknowingly treat them like toys. Sadly, some can even end up being used as bait or for training in dogfighting.

And others are simply dumped in the bush to face a slow and horrible death. 💔

This is why sterilisation and education are so important. They really are the ONLY way we can stop this heartbreaking cycle.

We have actually known about Coco for some time. When it was brought to our attention that she was not being properly cared for, we stepped in and provided food and a kennel for her and her babies.

After a long back-and-forth with her owner, who wanted to keep the puppies but not Coco, we were finally able to bring Coco and her babies into TCT care. ❤️

Because the truth is… those tiny puppies are going to grow up to be dogs just like Coco. And then what?

Coco and her babies were taken to the vet, where they were checked over and, thankfully, all were deemed healthy. They are now safely home at TCT Headquarters, where they can be cared for and given the fresh start they deserve. 🐾

The babies will be looking for their forever homes soon, so stay tuned! 🏡❤️

Fiona's cateo Part 1: ❤️🐱
We are currently breaking ground at our Kalbaskraal farm to extend it to build a cateo. On Wednesday morning we started building with our fence posts being concreted in. On Friday we put in the gate and started laying some bricks.
