This Saturday, I’ll be at Fak’ugesi moderating a conversation that is incredibly close to my heart.
Who Gets to Imagine the Future? Women artists, community and gender parity in African digital culture.
I’ll be joined by three incredible women working to shape the future of African creativity:

Together, we’ll explore representation, creative ownership, access to resources and what it truly takes to build a more equitable creative industry.
From animation to games, immersive media, AI and film, this conversation is about more than who gets a seat at the table.
It’s about who gets to shape what comes next.
We’ll also witness Fak’ugesi signing the Reel Balance pledge for gender parity live on stage.

Applications are NOW OPEN for the "Second Key Animation Online Course", a free programme preparing 100 African animators for work in Japan's anime industry. Sign up now!

Second key animators take rough key drawings and turn them into finished, production-ready frames. It is a vital role in anime production, and one Japanese studios are looking to fill.

The course was designed by Japanese anime professionals Chiharu Akakura, Megumi Okawa, Yuki Yoshida and Rikako Nakano. Top performers will be put forward to leading Japanese anime studios for consideration.

To apply, complete a short clean-up and key animation assignment from the entry pack and submit it with your application by 1 November 2026, 23:59 SAST.

The course is FREE and open to African citizens aged 18 and over.
