Happy World Ocean Day ๐ŸŒŠ

The ocean knows no borders. Neither does waste.

At ISWA Africa Regional Chapter, we see how land-based waste travels. From inland cities to coastal communities, plastics and organics move through our river basins into the Atlantic and Indian Oceans choking marine life, harming livelihoods, and threatening the blue economy Africa needs.

This World Ocean Day, ISWA ARC calls on the continent to reimagine our relationship with the sea:

Reimagine policy: harmonized waste laws that stop leakage at the source.

Reimagine infrastructure: inclusive collection and recycling systems that work for every African city

Reimagine collaboration: knowledge-sharing across borders, because rivers and tides connect us all.

Reimagine value: turning waste into resources, jobs, and clean coastlines.

A healthy ocean needs sound waste management. Sound waste management needs a united Africa. From Cairo to Cape Town, Dakar to Dar es Salaam letโ€™s build the systems that keep our oceans blue and our future secure.

Happy World Environment Day

Nature is Africaโ€™s first teacher. Forests regenerate without landfills. Rivers flow without plastic. Soil thrives without chemicals.

On World Environment Day, the ISWA Africa Regional Chapter calls on cities, communities, and leaders across the continent to take lessons from nature and apply them to our waste systems.

Africa is on the frontline of climate change. Poor waste management fuels methane emissions, floods, and soil loss. But better waste management is climate action.

Across our region, ISWA ARC members are:
- Turning organic waste into compost that restores degraded land
- Building recycling value chains that cut pollution and create green jobs
- Supporting policies that keep materials in use and out of the environment

A waste-free Africa is a climate-resilient Africa. Letโ€™s design systems that work like ecosystems: no waste, no loss, just continuous value. For our climate. For our future. For Africa.

At TakaTaka Ni Mali, we believe Africa's waste challenge presents one of the continent's greatest economic opportunities. Through AWWS III, we are creating a platform that connects local action with global expertise, catalyzes partnerships, and showcases practical solutions for sustainable development.

To ensure these conversations reach more stakeholders, we have opened FREE virtual participation, allowing people across Africa and beyond to learn, engage, network, and contribute to shaping the future of the sector.

This is more than a conference!

Spotlighting Innovation this International Compost Awareness Week ๐ŸŒฑ

ISWA Africa Regional Chapter recognizes Madam Waste for demonstrating how decentralized organic waste management strengthens urban health and food system resilience.

Working exclusively with 100% organic feedstock from spoiled retail produce and agro processing residues to animal manure Madam Waste is proving whatโ€™s possible when cities rethink waste.

Through decentralized biogas systems and 24-hour in-vessel composting, theyโ€™re diverting organics from landfills while producing two critical resources:
โœ… Digestate from biogas systems
โœ… High-quality compost from rapid in-vessel processing

Together, these outputs close the loop between urban waste and soil health. They fuel urban agriculture, support landscaping, and enable regenerative soil practices turning yesterdayโ€™s waste into tomorrowโ€™s food.

Madam Wasteโ€™s model shows that when circular economy solutions are embedded at the city level, urban spaces become cleaner, more resource efficient, and climate-resilient.

Organic waste isnโ€™t just a disposal problem. Itโ€™s an opportunity to redesign how African cities produce, consume, recover, and regenerate.
