A prayer for the week 🙏📖

Behind every translation is a community. Behind every community is a story. And behind the work are people who need our prayers.
Bible translation takes time. It takes skilled translators, reviewers, language communities, churches and partners working together.

It also takes prayer.

Today, we invite you to pray for the people behind the work across Southern Africa:
🙏 For translators and reviewers — for wisdom, accuracy and perseverance.
🙏 For language communities — that they would have meaningful access to God's Word in languages they understand.
🙏 For teams working in challenging circumstances — for protection, strength and provision.
🙏 For the resources needed to keep translation projects moving forward.

Bible translation is moving forward. And so is the vision. ⚡📖

Bible translation can take years, sometimes decades.

In the past year, 118 new Bible and New Testament translations were released, while an average of one new language translation project is beginning every day.

Every number represents a language community, a translation team and countless hours of careful work.
The need is still great. And so is the progress.

It was a privilege for LuminAfrica to connect with others passionate about sharing the Gospel and to encourage Christians to find their own way to get involved in God's mission, including the work of Bible translation.

How does LuminAfrica decide where support is needed most?

It isn't simply a matter of choosing a language from a list.

LuminAfrica works with implementing partners and local language communities to identify where the need is greatest.

Factors such as the community's need, readiness and the availability of translators are considered before funding is channelled.

It's a process built around trust, collaboration and shared goals.

Supporting Bible translation isn't only about funding a project. It's about understanding the community and helping create the conditions for the work to move forward.

Why does Bible translation matter? 🌍📖

God's Word brings hope to people who need it.

When Scripture is available in a language people understand deeply, it can speak to their hearts, strengthen their faith and bring the hope of God closer to home.

William Cameron Townsend, founder of SIL Global and Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, said: “The greatest missionary is the Bible in the mother tongue. It needs no furlough and is never considered a foreigner.”

What language do you pray in? 💬❤️

Your heart language isn't necessarily the language you were first taught.

It can be the language you dream in, pray in and express yourself most naturally in. Sometimes it may even be a second or third language.

For many people around the world, Scripture is still not available in that language.

That is why language matters.

2,000 people. One shared purpose. 🌍📖

What does it look like when an entire community comes together around Scripture?

On 9 July 2026, more than 2,000 people gathered in Milange, Mozambique, for the second Running for the Bibleless event.

The celebration also included the distribution of 212 audio Bibles, giving more people the opportunity to hear God's Word in Marenje.

The event brought together government and community leaders, religious leaders and listening group leaders, demonstrating growing community involvement around the Marenje translation project.

The story doesn't end with the event. A listening group of 70 people in Mangassage has since continued meeting weekly, with the members coming to faith together.

❤️ This is what happens when a community gathers, listens and responds together.

When Scripture reaches people in song. 🎶📖

What happens when God's Word becomes something you can sing?

For the Sepulana Bible Translation Project, Scripture engagement goes beyond the printed page.
During the quarter, the team recorded three Sepulana songs, while community members continued engaging with Scripture through audio, church visits and local gatherings.

For Kgwedi Surprise, a church keyboard player, playing Sepulana songs for the first time was a joyful experience.

Lebyane Kgonego, a first-language Zulu speaker, was also able to read the Sepulana Mark booklet fluently as a first-time reader.

When Scripture is heard, read and sung in a person's own language, it can become part of everyday life.

A STORY OF TRANSFORMATION ❤️

She couldn't read the language she spoke. Today, she can use it to tell her story.

When Ria Reen joined the !Xuhn Bible Translation Project in Kimberley, she could not read or write in her own language, !Xuhntali.

Through her involvement in the translation process, she developed literacy in her own language.

In 2026, she went on to perform a praise poem in !Xuhntali at South Africa’s State of the Nation Address.

One translation project. One language. One life changed.

Ria’s story shows how Bible translation can reach beyond the pages of Scripture, opening doors to language, literacy and expression.

7,396 languages in the world. How many have the full Bible? 🌍📖

There are 7,396 languages spoken around the world, but only around 779 have a full Bible translation.

That means millions of people are still waiting to encounter the fullness of Scripture in a language they understand best.

There is encouraging news too.

In 2025 alone, 118 new Bible and New Testament translations were released, almost one every three days.
Behind every number is a language, a community and a story.
