The deadline for public submissions on the PIE Amendment Bill, 2026, is fast approaching and closes on Youth Day, 16 June.

We strongly reject this Bill, which seeks to criminalise landlessness in a country still grappling with the legacy of dispossession and spatial injustice.

While more and more Capetonians face homelessness, Premier Alan Winde last night hosted a candle-lit dinner for commercial property owners at Leeuwenhof, his official residence. 🕯️🕯️🕯️

This dinner is part of a decade-long pattern of prioritising commercial values: Winde’s administration is directly responsible for stalling affordable housing on the Tafelberg site and for having surplus provincial parking lots inside the Cape Town CBD, even though R72 million replacement ones were built in Epping.

Winde’s disregard for the landless is consistently on display. His treatment of this human rights crisis is as if it is just a public relations nuisance.
